Vinh Te Canal is an irrigation achievement under the last feudal dynasty of Vietnam, with a length of more than 11,000 truong (nearly 91 km), starting from the west bank of Chau Doc River (An Giang province) and connecting directly to Giang Thanh River in Ha Tien city (today's Kien Giang province). The canal was dug by the famous mandarin Thoai Ngoc Hau, starting in 1819 under the reign of King Gia Long and completed in 1824 under the reign of King Minh Mang.

Vinh Te Canal shows the strategic vision of our ancestors, both developing production and trade, and protecting the border, establishing territorial sovereignty. In national defense, Vinh Te Canal is likened to a giant military moat protecting the southwestern national border. In economic development, to this day, Vinh Te Canal not only brings fresh water and alluvium to thousands of hectares of agricultural land in An Giang, but also to the Long Xuyen quadrangle. This is one of the first places to receive floodwaters from the Mekong River, bringing abundant aquatic resources of fish and shrimp to serve the lives of local people.
