Ministry of Education and Training changes the structure of periodic tests for high school students

The Ministry of Education and Training has just sent an official dispatch to the Departments of Education and Training to guide the implementation of innovation in testing and assessment for secondary and high schools.

Accordingly, for subjects assessed by comments combined with scores, the Ministry of Education and Training requests that the Departments of Education and Training guide high school educational institutions to develop matrices, specifications, test questions and instructions for marking periodic tests to ensure professional and technical requirements (refer to the appendix sent by the Ministry of Education and Training).

The Ministry of Education and Training requires this to be implemented from semester 2 of the 2024-2025 school year.

According to the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training, from the second semester of this school year, the new matrix of periodic tests for subjects assessed by scores will include 2 parts: Objective test (accounting for 7 on a 10-point scale) and Essay (accounting for 3 on a 10-point scale).

Notably, in the Objective Test section (7 points), students will have to solve the following types of questions: Multiple choice (3 points); True - False (2 points); Short answer (2 points).

The Ministry of Education and Training also provides instructions that with “True-False” questions, each question will include 4 sub-options, each of which the student must choose true or false. Some documents classify this question as Complex Multiple Choice or Multiple Choice with multiple correct options.

For “Short Answer” questions, for subjects that do not use this format, transfer all points to “True - False” format.

For the 2 levels of secondary and high school in general, the Ministry of Education and Training recommends that the Departments of Education and Training, based on the content of the training for core teachers in November 2024, organize training for managers and teachers of educational institutions implementing general education programs in the management area.
