From the inter-village road, we walked more than 2km along the hill's path to reach the house that the Gia Nghia City Military Command had just built for the couple Tran Thi Bien, in Tan Phu village, Dak R'moan commune, Gia Nghia City.

In the new, spacious house, Ms. Bien said that the reason she and her husband fell into poverty in the past was because they did not know how to make a living.

Colonel Tong Tran Thanh, Deputy Chief of Political Affairs of Dak Nong Provincial Military Command, congratulated the family of Ms. Tran Thi Bien in Tan Phu village, Dak R'moan commune, Gia Nghia city on having a new house and soon escaping poverty.

The couple’s assets are just over 1 sao of land given by their parents. On this land, she grows a few cashew and coffee trees, but the income is not enough to cover living expenses. The family has lived in a shack for nearly 10 years.

In 2023, Ms. Bien and her husband were supported by the Gia Nghia City Military Command with a pair of cows worth 30 million VND to create a livelihood. Last October, her family continued to receive a house built by the Gia Nghia City Military Command with an area of over 35 square meters , with a total cost of 80 million VND.

"We are very grateful to the soldiers and the commune government. We will work hard to escape poverty soon," Ms. Bien said.

Next to Ms. Bien's house is Ms. Dinh Thi Hang's family. Ms. Hang and her husband have 3 young children, and their property consists of only nearly 2 sao of land growing some cashew and coffee trees.

Last October, her family was given a cow by the Gia Nghia City Military Command to help them make a living. "We are farmers but have never raised cows before. Thanks to the soldiers' guidance, we have mastered the techniques of raising cows for reproduction. We are striving to escape poverty next year," said Ms. Hang.

She was supported by the Party Committee of Gia Nghia City Military Command with 5 goats, equivalent to 31 million VND. Up to now, the herd of goats has given birth to 3 more. She hopes that the herd of goats will provide a stable income in the near future.

Ms. Kim happily said: “I currently live alone. Last year, I was a poor household. Thanks to the help of the army, this year I am a near-poor household."

With the motto of "holding hands and showing people how to do things" in helping people, from 2021 to now, the Party Committee of Gia Nghia City Military Command has helped 8 poor households rise up.

Of which, the unit donated 4 cows, 14 goats; built 1 house for the poor, with a total value of 201 million VND. All funding for these activities came from contributions from cadres and party members in the unit and mobilized from organizations, businesses and individuals outside.

Gia Nghia City Military Command, together with local Party committees and authorities, has contributed to the successful implementation of the goals of economic, cultural and social development associated with national defense and security in the area.

The model "Each Party cell helps 1 household escape poverty sustainably" of the Party Committee of Gia Nghia City Military Command was evaluated by Gia Nghia City Party Committee as an outstanding model of skillful mass mobilization in 2023. We will research and widely deploy this method.
