Quang Tri Border Guard discovered and handled 2 fishing boats operating illegally.

At 8:30 a.m. on March 25, a patrol boat squadron of the Quang Tri Provincial Border Guard was performing a task of monitoring fisheries in the Gulf of Tonkin. During the patrol, they discovered a fishing boat with registration number QB 11670 TS, captained by Mr. Tran Van Bach (residing in Quang Ngai Province), and its crew members were illegally exploiting seafood near shore by using a trawler.

The patrol boat team has drawn up a record of this fishing boat for illegal fishing, and arranged patrol boats and officers to bring the violators and vehicles to Cua Viet Port for further handling according to regulations.

Then, at 9:00 a.m. the same day, about 5 nautical miles from the coast, the patrol boat team continued to discover fishing boat QB 93844 TS captained by Mr. Le Van Long, residing in Gio Linh district, Quang Tri province, fishing in an area not in accordance with the fishing license. The patrol boat team invited Mr. Le Van Long to the headquarters of Squadron 2, Provincial Border Guard for questioning.

During the investigation, both vessel owners admitted their illegal acts when they operated their vessels on routes other than those specified in Decree 33/2010/ND-CP on the management of fisheries exploitation activities.

Currently, the patrol boat squadron has handed over the case to Trieu Van Border Guard Station for further processing according to the provisions of law.

According to the People's Committee of Quang Tri province, the province has 776 fishing vessels with a total capacity of more than 125 thousand horsepower, 100% of which have been registered. The number of fishing vessels installed with voyage monitoring equipment reached 98.94%, fishing vessels granted fishing licenses reached 97.16%, fishing vessels marked reached 99.7%, data updated on the VnFishbase software system reached 100%; collection and submission of fishing logs of captains at fishing ports were strictly implemented, reaching 100%.
