The Central Highlands General Hospital said it had just successfully treated a 99-year-old woman who had a heart attack.
The patient is Mrs. Nguyen Thi K. (born in 1924, residing in Duc Minh commune, Dak Mil district, Dak Nong province). This is the oldest patient the hospital has ever received and treated for cardiovascular problems.
Previously, on the evening of December 24, Mr. K. was transferred to the Central Highlands General Hospital in a state of severe chest pain and difficulty breathing. Mr. K. had a history of diabetes, high blood pressure, and poor health. Upon examination, the doctors diagnosed him with an acute myocardial infarction, so they performed hemodynamic resuscitation and emergency percutaneous coronary intervention (coronary stent placement).
Up to now, Mr. K. has overcome the critical stage and is being monitored and treated by doctors.

Master, resident physician Cu Nhat Quy (Emergency Department - Cardiovascular Intervention, Central Highlands General Hospital) said that in the past few days, the unit has received and successfully treated about 10 patients with acute myocardial infarction. The oldest case was Mr. K. (99 years old). In addition, the department also treated a 37-year-old male patient with risk factors for high blood pressure. This patient was also admitted to the hospital with severe chest pain, difficulty breathing... After surgery and coronary artery stent placement, the male patient's health has stabilized.
It is known that the cost of intervention for diseases related to severe cardiovascular diseases is very high. An intervention without health insurance will cost from 80 to 100 million VND, or even higher. Not to mention that these diseases progress very quickly, if the "golden time" for emergency treatment is passed, heart failure will occur, increasing mortality rate, reducing quality of life and increasing treatment costs. This will be a huge pressure for poor and disadvantaged patients.
According to Dr. Nguyen Dang Giap, Deputy Director of the Central Highlands General Hospital, the Cardiovascular Intervention Department has currently invested in modern equipment such as: DSA system (digital subtraction angiography machine), transesophageal echocardiography machine, balloon counterpulsation... to serve the treatment of severe cases related to the cardiovascular system (acute myocardial infarction, bradyarrhythmia requiring pacemaker placement...).
Patients can be treated at the Central Highlands General Hospital without having to go elsewhere, helping to increase the patient's chances of survival and reduce the pressure on travel and treatment costs...
