Taking a medical history, D.'s father said that at around 7:00 p.m., he and his friends were riding their bikes near their house. Due to not being in control of the steering wheel, D. fell into a pot of boiling water from a neighbor's house.
On June 12, a representative of Children's Hospital 2 said that the rare accident left the child with severe burns from his shoulders to his buttocks. He is currently being actively treated by doctors from the hospital's Burn and Orthopedics Department.
Currently, baby D. is being treated at the Burn and Orthopedics department.
Specialist Doctor 2 Vu Hiep Phat, Head of the Emergency Department, Children's Hospital 2, said that summer is the time when children's daily accidents increase. Recently, the hospital has continuously received many cases of children having accidents.
Recently, male patient KSYP (13 years old, residing in Dak Lak province) was transferred from a lower-level hospital to Children's Hospital 2 because of an electric shock. P.'s mother said that he and his friends in the neighborhood were flying kites and the kite got stuck on the roof. P. climbed onto the roof to retrieve it and unfortunately received an electric shock to his left hand. After being discovered, P. was taken to the local hospital for emergency treatment by his family, then transferred to Children's Hospital 2.
Doctor Phat said that common accidents such as burns (electricity, gasoline, chemicals, etc.), drowning, bee stings, snake bites, traffic accidents, falls... Most of them are caused by children at the age of curiosity and exploration...
Dr. Phat recommends that parents always be vigilant to ensure the safety of their children during the summer. Always keep an eye on your children's activities because danger can lurk at any time.
Safety advice for children in the summer
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control, regardless of age, leaving children home alone is a risky choice and has many potential risks. Therefore, when there is no other alternative, parents need to equip their children with some knowledge of self-protection when home alone and must teach them some skills to handle situations that may arise. Below is some basic safety knowledge that children need to be equipped with:
- Do not plug or change the plug of electrical appliances without permission.
- Do not touch the power switch with wet hands.
- Turn off the circuit breaker if you detect an electrical short. Treat the fire or ask for help from neighbors (if any).
- Prevent fire and explosion, avoid burns when using fire-generating equipment
- Do not turn on gas stoves, lighters, or matches when not necessary.
- Do not play with matches, lighters or candles.
- Cool the burn with cold water for at least 20 minutes if you get burned.
- If a fire breaks out and cannot be controlled, quickly leave the house and ask for help from neighbors. Always close the door, latch it, and hook the lock but do not press the lock to easily open the door to escape in case of an accident.
- Limit contact with strangers, refuse requests to open the door from strangers. Before opening the door for others, call your parents or relatives to ask for permission.
