According to Dr. Phan Minh Duc, Deputy Director of Tue Tinh Institute of Medical and Pharmaceutical Research (Hanoi), perilla is very familiar and is used daily in spices.
In addition, perilla is also widely used in oriental medicine, is a precious medicine, the whole plant can be used. From the stem, leaves, branches, seeds of perilla all produce medicinal properties to effectively treat diseases in oriental medicine. The main effect in traditional medicine is to disperse wind and cold, clear the air and detoxify.
Perilla is a medicinal herb in traditional medicine.
Dr. Duc said that the perilla plant has also been studied a lot by modern medicine. Through many studies, it has been discovered that the perilla plant contains more than 270 different medicinal substances, including very valuable medicinal substances such as: a group of medicinal substances that fight cell oxidation through luteolin flavonoid; an antibacterial group through polyphenols; substances belonging to the anti-inflammatory group, anti-allergy group, anti-cancer groups and especially anti-depression groups.
In addition to the above pharmacological uses, for perilla, each different extraction method will produce special activities that can be used to treat certain diseases such as HIV, asthma, and hepatitis.
Note how to use perilla in skin lightening
In response to information being shared by the community about the beauty effects (treating acne, brightening skin) of perilla, Dr. Duc said that the way to use perilla leaves is simple, which is to pound fresh perilla leaves and apply them as a mask to help whiten and brighten the skin. In addition, in some cases, applying fresh perilla leaves also helps patients quickly get rid of acne and reduce dark spots.
"If you have a source of fresh, clean perilla leaves, you can use the method of pounding and applying perilla leaves to whiten and brighten your skin," Dr. Duc shared.
Dr. Duc noted that according to traditional medicine, people with yin deficiency and internal heat should not use perilla leaves; people who sweat a lot or people who do not have an external cold should also not use it.
According to clinical reports, there are some cases where inhaling the smoke from roasted perilla seeds can cause asthma attacks. There are also reports of some cases of anaphylactic shock due to using perilla seeds. Although these cases are rare, people with allergies should pay attention before using them. "We should try a little bit of the leaves, rub it on the wrist area, if there is no rash or allergy, we can use it," Dr. Duc instructed.
For those who use perilla seeds, you can crush the seeds and rub them on your arms. If after 5-10 minutes there is no rash or allergic reaction, you can use it normally. This is a note for those with allergies. Normally, it is not necessary because this clinical report is rare and not common.
