Arrested doctor for health insurance fraud with an accomplice

Late on December 16, Mr. Le Van Tien, Director of Lam Dong General Hospital (Lam Dong General Hospital), confirmed that Lam Dong provincial prosecution agencies had just prosecuted and temporarily detained for 4 months doctor LVN (33 years old) and an accomplice, Mr. H.D.T (36 years old, residing in Ward 5, Da Lat City, former employee of the Pharmacy Department, Lam Dong General Hospital), to investigate the act of abusing position and power to appropriate property.

In which, defendant N. was identified as the main subject in the case of health insurance fraud, and defendant H.D.T was an accomplice and supporter.

On the same day, Lam Dong Provincial Police searched Dr. N's workplace and seized many important evidences related to the act of profiting from health insurance.

As Thanh Nien reported, previously, the authorities discovered that in the first 9 months of 2023, Dr. N. "helped" examine patients at home, or patients did not go to the hospital for examination, but Dr. N. still prescribed medicine and signed on behalf of 53 patients to receive health insurance drugs with a total value of up to nearly 900 million VND. Lam Dong Provincial Social Insurance refused to pay health insurance medical examination and treatment costs for 19 verified cases with an amount of more than 357 million VND (performed by Dr. N.). In addition, Lam Dong Provincial Social Insurance temporarily did not pay health insurance medical examination and treatment costs for 34 cases to continue to verify and clarify, with an amount of more than 527 million VND.

Initially, the authorities clarified that many patients did not come to the hospital for examination, but Dr. N. only gave the patient information including name and health insurance card number to the nurses who received them and said that they were relatives or acquaintances of his. Dr. N. asked the nurses to receive them first and said that the patients would come later to save waiting time.

Not to mention that there are prescriptions that Dr. N. prescribed for a patient only a few days apart (both prescriptions were for use within 1 month and had the same medicine). There are patients who have no history of diabetes examination and treatment but are prescribed diabetes medication by Dr. N., and prescribed basal insulin for subcutaneous injection with a dosage exceeding the professional regulations...

Currently, Lam Dong General Hospital is cooperating to provide information, documents, and evidence related to the health insurance fraud case so that Lam Dong Provincial Police can continue to investigate and expand the case.
