On July 29, the Russian Defense Ministry officially confirmed full control of the village of Volchie, west of Ocheretino. Ukrainian military sources reported that Russia had taken control of Volchie several days ago.

The Russian attack on the village began about a week ago, after Russian forces took control of the nearby Progress. Ukrainian Armed Forces quickly withdrew from both settlements.

Earlier, on July 28, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that it had taken full control of Progress and Evgenovka. A day earlier, full Russian control was officially confirmed in Lozovatskoe.

After taking control of the villages of Progress and Volchie, units of the Russian Army Group Center began an attack on Veseloe, and they pushed Ukrainian forces out of most of the villages. Russian troops also approached Ivanovka and Zhelannoe, advancing towards Timofeevka and Sergeevka. Ukrainian military sources acknowledged Russian advances along the railway and in forested areas on a front approximately 1 km wide to a depth of 650 m north of Zhelannoe on 28 July.

At the same time, the Russian army continued to advance eastward. The battle for Novoselovka Pervaya was nearing its end. The Russian army was completing the cleanup operations on the western outskirts of the town and expanding its zone of control to the southwest.

Despite all efforts to halt the Russian advance, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been unable to defend their positions and continue to retreat westward. The Russian advance could soon pose a strategic threat to the Ukrainian military. Key routes used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to transport equipment to different parts of Donbass are under Russian fire control. Meanwhile, many Ukrainian units are hastily retreating and attempting to consolidate their defenses at another major stronghold in the region, the city of Selidovo.

The fortress at Selidovo is also an important logistical hub for the Ukrainian army and is under threat from the Russian advance from the eastern Karlov reservoir area. Heavy fighting continues on the southern and eastern shores as well as east of the town of Karlovka. The Russian army is now completing the cleanup operations in the area west of Yasnobrodovka to completely push back the Ukrainian forces.

Fierce fighting continues north of Ocheretino. Russian forces are still pressing Ukrainian defenses on the southern outskirts of the town of Vozdvizhenka. Near Kalinovo, north of Arkhangelskoe, positions have barely changed, but Russian forces are continuing to attack on the northern flank to prevent Ukrainian forces from strengthening their defenses.

In July, the Russian military gained control of more areas in different directions. This July is the largest month in which the Russian Armed Forces have gained control of a region since spring 2022.

Most of the Russian army's successes were achieved in the direction of Pokrovsk, where the front line was pushed westward at high speed. Taking advantage of the freedom of maneuver, the Russian army continued to advance, putting great pressure on the Ukrainian defenses.
