Issuing the Framework for Developing Vietnam's Digital Infrastructure

Information and Communications Infrastructure Planning for the 2021 - 2030 period, with a vision to 2050, focuses on developing digital infrastructure.

Specifically, digital infrastructure is planned to develop according to the orientation: "Broadband telecommunications network ensures large capacity, high speed, modern technology, Internet of Things - IoT infrastructure is widely integrated to ensure harmonious development, well serving digital transformation, digital government, digital economy, digital society and security - national defense".

Vietnam's digital infrastructure framework issued to promote development

The Ministry of Information and Communications' viewpoint is that Vietnam's digital infrastructure must ensure super-large capacity, super-wide bandwidth, popularity, sustainability, "green", smart, open and secure. Digital infrastructure must be invested in one step ahead to serve national digital transformation, develop the digital economy and digital society.

Therefore, the Ministry of Information and Communications has issued the Framework for the Development of Vietnam's Digital Infrastructure. This is the basis for the Ministry of Information and Communications to issue or submit to competent authorities to issue policies to promote development and regulations on the management of digital infrastructure.

According to the Department of Telecommunications 9 (Ministry of Information and Communications), the digital infrastructure development framework is built on the basis of Vietnam's approach, while reflecting the evolution and expansion from traditional telecommunications infrastructure to new infrastructures.

The four main components of Vietnam's digital infrastructure include: telecommunications and Internet infrastructure; data infrastructure; physical-digital infrastructure; digital utility infrastructure and digital technology as a service.

Specifically, telecommunications and Internet infrastructure is the essential connection platform for all activities in the digital age, including fiber optic cable systems, transmission, broadcasting stations, mobile networks (4G, 5G, 6G), Wifi, satellites, routing systems, DNS servers, Internet transit points...

Data infrastructure ensures the ability to efficiently store, process and exploit the huge amount of data generated in the digital age.

Digital-physical infrastructure digitizes the real world, creating a "1-1" mapping between the real world and the digital world. This is the most important component of digital transformation. Thanks to this infrastructure, people have another space to live, work and create.

Digital utility infrastructure and digital technology as a service: digital utility infrastructure provides tools for people to conduct transactions in the digital environment; digital technology infrastructure as a service is a software platform that provides advanced technologies in the form of services so that organizations and businesses can access and use them instead of investing in construction themselves, thereby saving costs and quickly adapting to the 4.0 industrial revolution.

In addition, the Ministry of Information and Communications also clearly stated specific criteria for each requirement for developing Vietnam's digital infrastructure, including super-large capacity, super-wide bandwidth, sustainable universality, "green", smart, open and secure.

The Department of Telecommunications is responsible for monitoring, evaluating and updating the Vietnam Digital Infrastructure Development Framework in accordance with Vietnam's reality and the world's digital infrastructure development trends. Other units, based on their functions and tasks, propose to competent authorities to issue policies, regulations and implement solutions to develop Vietnam's digital infrastructure.

Telecommunications and digital technology enterprises will base on the Vietnam Digital Infrastructure Development Framework, the Information and Communications Infrastructure Development Plan, and their own strategies, plans, and development orientations to invest and develop appropriate and effective digital infrastructure components.
