The drainage system project on Vo Van Ngan Street and the expansion of Ta Quang Buu and Pham Huu Lau streets will be completed before April 30 to help reduce flooding and traffic jams at the city's gateway.
Put into operation on April 27 after nearly 4 years of construction, the project to build a drainage system on Vo Van Ngan Street, Thu Duc City was invested with a budget of more than 248 billion VND from the budget. The project is implemented on a nearly 2.5 km long section in the area near Thu Duc market, including items such as building a new sewer system and renovating sidewalks.

Previously, the project was scheduled to be completed in 2022 but was delayed due to the impact of the pandemic and the slow construction process of the old contractor. Earlier this year, the Thu Duc City Construction Investment Project Management Board (investor) selected a new contractor to speed up the completion of the remaining items before the rainy season began.
Vo Van Ngan Street is one of the main traffic routes in Thu Duc City. In particular, the section leading to Thu Duc Market has a large slope, the drainage system was built a long time ago, not enough to drain, causing the road to often be heavily flooded, with fast-flowing water. The construction of the new drainage system after completion will not only limit flooding but also facilitate people's travel and business along both sides.

More than 20 km from Vo Van Ngan Street, in the south of the city, the project to expand Ta Quang Buu Street, District 8, was also completed on April 30 this year after 23 years since the first start. The newly upgraded section is nearly 700 m long, expanded to 21 m, with an investment capital of 330 billion VND. This is part of the project to expand Ta Quang Buu Street, from Pham Hung to Au Duong Lan, which started in 2001 but due to land acquisition problems and waiting for project adjustments, the implementation time was prolonged.
Previously, the project had completed the expansion of a section of more than 1.2 km and stopped in 2005. In April 2023, the project was restarted and completed the remaining part after a year of construction.

According to the Management Board of Investment and Construction Projects of District 8, Ta Quang Buu is one of the main traffic axes in the area, connecting many major roads in the south of the city such as: Pham Hung, National Highway 50, Duong Ba Trac, Nguyen Van Linh. The project to expand this road section when completed will help increase traffic connectivity and urban beautification for the area.
Also in the south of Ho Chi Minh City, the Pham Huu Lau Street expansion project in Nha Be District was put into operation on April 26 after three years of construction, helping to reduce traffic congestion in the area. The project was invested in by a business and implemented on a nearly 1.5 km long section from Le Van Luong Street to Nguyen Huu Tho Street. This section was expanded from 6-7 m to 30 m, with 4 lanes.

According to Vice Chairman of Nha Be District People's Committee Vo Phan Le Nguyen, Pham Huu Lau Street is one of the main traffic routes connecting residential areas along Le Van Luong Street to Nguyen Huu Tho, 15B, Huynh Tan Phat, and then leading to the city center. However, for many years, the narrow route has caused difficulties for people to travel. Therefore, the completion of the road expansion project contributes to increasing connectivity and synchronizing traffic for the area.
In addition to the above project, Mr. Nguyen said that in the coming time, the district will continue to implement major projects such as Highway 15B (including Phu Xuan 2 Bridge), Pham Hung extension, Vinh Phuoc Cay Kho Road, Ring Road 4... "These are key projects, in addition to improving traffic capacity, they will open up new spaces to promote local economic and social development," he said.
