Explaining to Tuoi Tre Online about the sudden drying up of ponds and lakes around West Lake, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khuyen - Chairman of Tay Ho District People's Committee - said the reason was that the district was draining all the water at the above locations to plant lotus.
"Once the lotus planting is completed, we will immediately supply water again. It is expected that the ponds will dry up from now until the end of March until the lotus planting is completed," Mr. Khuyen said.
Also on this occasion, Tay Ho district carried out the work of repairing and dredging the bottom of ponds and lakes around West Lake after a long period of sedimentation and pollution.
