"The UK, along with France and possibly one or two other countries, will work with Ukraine on a plan to stop the fighting and we will discuss that plan with the United States," Prime Minister Starmer said on March 2, according to AFP.
"The UK and France are the first countries to think about this and that's why President (Emmanuel) Macron and I are working on this plan and then we'll discuss it with the US," Mr Starmer said.
French President Emmanuel Macron meets British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Paris on February 17
The British Prime Minister said that no one wants to see the US and Ukrainian leaders at odds at the White House and is confident that US President Donald Trump wants lasting peace for Ukraine.
Mr Starmer has played a role in bridging relations between the US and Ukraine as well as the US and Europe, and visited the White House just before the tumultuous trip by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
On March 2, Mr. Starmer will host 14 NATO leaders and EU representatives in London to find a solution for Ukraine. According to him, lasting peace requires Ukraine to have strong fighting capacity if necessary, to be in a strong position at the negotiating table, to have security guarantees with support from the United States.
Prime Minister Starmer said he would discuss a demarcation line between Ukraine and Russia with President Macron, but the plan would require US military cooperation.
"That means there will be a line agreed in the terms of the deal and that line will be protected. We (Mr. Starmer and Mr. Trump) discussed this thoroughly on Thursday (February 27) because you can't have a deal and then everything collapses," the British Prime Minister said.
The leader said he was ready to send British troops to protect the peace deal in Ukraine but would not be safe without US communications, logistical and air support.
On the same day, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk expressed support for Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's plan to hold a US-European summit to discuss a peace plan for Ukraine.
