In particular, generative AI - GenAI is a hot topic, attracting attention due to its practicality and functionality. In addition, attendees also have the opportunity to experience AI technology features and products at the booths of VinAI and sponsors.
AI Day 2023 will take place over 2 days (December 5-6) with the participation of more than 30 experts, professors and leading scientists in the field of artificial intelligence from all over the world. |
Speaking at the event, Dr. Bui Hai Hung - General Director of VinAI - said: “AI Day 2023 is the largest Artificial Intelligence Day that VinAI has co-organized in the past 5 years with the presence of the best minds in the world in the field of AI. This year, VinAI and New Turning Institute co-organized AI Day 2023 with a focus on GenAI, which is expected to be a bridge connecting Vietnamese intelligence with future advances. This is also the top mission and goal of Artificial Intelligence Day every year, aiming to bring the Vietnamese AI community to develop more and more, reaching out to the world”.
Mr. Bui Hai Hung - General Director of VinAI, Mr. Thuc Vu - CEO of OhmniLab - Kambria and Mr. Tran Duy Dong - Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment at the opening ceremony of the event. |
Sharing at the event, Mr. Tran Duy Dong (Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment) emphasized: “I believe that AI will be one of the fields in which Vietnam has great potential to develop strongly and soon catch up with the world level. The Ministry of Planning and Investment will always support and accompany the AI community in particular and the science and technology community in general to develop a comprehensive and dynamic innovation ecosystem, contributing to the overall development of the country”.
At AI Day 2023, VinAI Company officially announced for the first time an open source research project on a large language model specifically for Vietnamese, "PhoGPT" . The goal of the project is to develop models similar to ChatGPT for Vietnamese and Vietnamese culture. PhoGPT has the ability to understand and write Vietnamese writing style in a way that is superior to previous generation language technologies. The model is also trained from scratch with a Vietnamese data set, independent of any other model in the world, ensuring mastery of advanced core technology for Vietnam.
“PhoGPT” is an open source project, along with the trend of large open source language models in the world such as Meta’s Llama or Mistral, which was developed to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Comparing the PhoGPT-7B5-Instruct version and the closed source ChatGPT (GPT-3.5-turbo) and other open source models shows that: PhoGPT ranks second only to ChatGPT in most evaluation categories. The PhoGPT development team is continuing to improve the model and will expand the project to other languages, especially those in the Southeast Asian region.
According to Precedence Research, spending on AI hardware is increasing rapidly, from 43 billion USD in 2021, to 248 billion USD by 2030. This number has become a headache for manufacturers. Understanding the impact, VinAI has invested efforts in optimizing AI algorithms, helping to minimize waste. Optimizing AI models helps VinAI design AI models with better hardware efficiency while maintaining accuracy, immediately helping to significantly reduce customers' hardware investment costs and cloud computing operating costs. Optimized AI models will take up less memory and consume less power, thereby reducing emissions to the environment.
After 5 consecutive years of organizing AI Day in Vietnam, the innovations in the program content as well as attracting the world's leading "AI superstars" to attend have affirmed the growth and continuous efforts of VinAI - the role of a pioneer, connecting the bright talents of the Vietnamese AI community to meet and exchange with colleagues around the world.
