Vietnam has technology enterprises capable of acquiring many international technology companies; enterprises also produce and export important technology equipment for 5G network infrastructure, develop artificial intelligence (AI) technology... to integrate into the digital world.

While the world is still boiling with the ChatGPT "fever", in Vietnam, in early December 2023, VinAI Artificial Intelligence Research and Application Company (under Vingroup) announced PhoGPT, considered as the Vietnamese version of ChatGPT, created and specialized for Vietnamese. This event has created excitement for the domestic and international technology community. PhoGPT has laid the first foundations for the development of high-performance Vietnamese language models, as a basis for developing practical applications, in line with the Government's AI development strategy to 2030.

Unlike proprietary software like ChatGPT by OpenAI, PhoGPT is an open-source project, meaning that the source code is publicly developed and available to the community to develop applications. Because it is open source, VinAI has no commercial limitations, all parties can use PhoGPT to develop their own applications, including applications for commercial purposes. This approach will help increase the growth of PhoGPT. AI experts commented: With a big data language model with 7.5 billion parameters, built on the Transformer decoding platform, PhoGPT is trained from scratch, using the most advanced techniques available (such as Flash Attention mechanism, context length extrapolation (AliBi) ... not only helps to understand the context more deeply but also increases the ability of PhoGPT to dialogue and interact naturally, meeting the diverse language needs of users.

Use the potential of strong companies

In 2023, FPT Corporation will acquire many companies with core technology, such as in February, FPT acquired the entire IT Services segment, one of the strategic business segments of Intertec International Company, USA. With a network of 22 FPT technology supply centers worldwide, Intertec's technology services segment will help both sides ensure the fastest customer service in all time zones, all locations in the world and maximize the unlimited opportunities from the English-speaking market.

In November, FPT Corporation acquired Cardinal Peak, a 20-year-old technology engineering service provider in the North American market. With Cardinal Peak's participation, FPT was supplemented with a team of hundreds of engineers with in-depth knowledge of IoT, cloud computing, mobile technologies, etc. and understanding the specific needs of customers in each field. In December, FPT announced the purchase of 80% of AOSIS's shares, a technology consulting company headquartered in France, a deal that is part of FPT's strategy to expand its global presence and, in particular, to make a mark on FPT's technological competitiveness in Europe. The company also strengthened strategic cooperation, such as signing with Landing AI, a leading US computer vision and AI software company, to develop AI business and human resources in October. From this cooperation, FPT became one of the major investors and strategic partners of Landing AI in Asia - Pacific. The two sides committed to developing AI in the two fields of technology and education. Previously, FPT and Landing AI successfully coordinated and provided AI solutions for the production line of a global corporation in the field of automobile interior manufacturing with annual sales of about 13 billion USD.

Mergers and acquisitions play an important role in FPT's global strategy and contribute to achieving the target of 1 billion USD in revenue from IT services for foreign markets by the end of 2023, and being in the top 50 global technology companies by 2030.

Core technology for application and business

In February 2023, at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 in Barcelona (Spain), Viettel High Tech (VHT, a member of Viettel Group) and Qualcomm (USA) announced the research and successful production of the world's first 5G base station radio block (32 transmitters, 32 receivers) using ASIC chipsets according to Qualcomm's Open RAN standard..., changing the view of Vietnam's technology approach before international partners. Viettel High Tech's engineering team participated in the research, proposed optimal solutions and completed the production of complete circuit boards for 5G base stations in only 1/3 of the time compared to the normal development process. "The results of the cooperation with Qualcomm will promote the commercialization of Viettel's 5G products on a large scale," Mr. Nguyen Vu Ha, General Director of Viettel High Tech, excitedly announced.

Viettel also announced the successful research of 5G chips in early November 2023, one of the high-tech products that is currently "hot" and promises higher value in the coming years... Fully mastering the chip design stages is an important step for Vietnam to participate more deeply in the global semiconductor industry, in the context that the world market has not yet provided a commercial 5G chip product line. This is a premise for Viettel to be able to produce chips serving many fields such as AI, 6G, IoT... in the future. Or Viettel High Tech and PT. Bandara Praniagatama Company (Indonesia) signed an agreement on distributing Viettel's Flight Crew and Cockpit Training Simulation System products in November 2023. This cooperation marks an important step in developing the export market for Viettel's flight simulation products, with an expected revenue of tens of millions of USD.

Looking back over the year, the achievements of VinAI, FPT, Viettel and many other technology companies show that Vietnamese enterprises are not only growing but also increasingly integrating deeply with the international community in most fields. This will be the premise for Make in Vietnam digital technology products to confidently step out into the world, bringing "huge" revenue back to Vietnam.
