At a working session with the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) on the afternoon of February 27, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee Le Hong Vinh requested ACV to speed up the implementation of a number of items and projects to renovate and expand Vinh International Airport.

It is known that ACV is currently preparing to invest in 3 projects to renovate and upgrade Vinh International Airport, including:
The project to expand and renovate the aircraft parking lot to ensure the exploitation of 9 parking positions for code C aircraft is expected to start before April 30 and be completed in December 2025 with a total investment of VND 236.63 billion.
The project to renovate the existing T1 Passenger Terminal is expected to start construction before April 30 and be completed in December 2025 with a total investment of VND68.36 billion.
The project to renovate the existing runway with a length of 2,400m, a width of 45m and a system of 2 taxiways, brake strips, safety strips, etc. has a total investment of more than 623 billion VND. With this project, Vinh airport is expected to close for construction before June 30 and resume operations before December 31.
Once completed, Vinh International Airport will accommodate 3-3.5 million passengers per year by 2030.
According to Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee Le Hong Vinh, of the 3 projects, only part of the project site for expanding and renovating the aircraft parking lot with an area of over 3 hectares is still stuck with legal procedures. Nghe An Provincial leaders requested ACV to coordinate with the locality to promptly resolve the problems.
Assessing the runway renovation project as the most important project, Mr. Vinh requested ACV to speed up the implementation progress and minimize the closing time of Vinh International Airport.
The Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee also agreed with ACV's proposal to soon invest in extending the existing runway by 600m to accommodate larger aircraft. On that basis, ACV was asked to establish an investment policy for the project with this extension so that the province has a basis to carry out compensation and site clearance.

On the ACV side, Chairman Vu The Phiet pledged to synchronously deploy all 3 projects, ensuring completion before December 30, 2025 to meet people's travel needs, especially during the Lunar New Year. The company pledged to invest in ensuring quality and safe aviation infrastructure.

In addition, ACV will soon announce the Vinh International Airport Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, and develop a specific investment roadmap for the period 2026-2030 and the following period.
