In an interview with a VNA correspondent in South America on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification of the Vietnamese people (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), Mr. Perez Pena emphasized that the victory of the general offensive and uprising in the spring of 1975 by the Vietnamese people was a great source of encouragement and motivation for many countries, especially the young generation, in terms of their ability to overcome injustice, oppression, colonial order, and defeat the strongest military power in the world. Mr. Perez Pena highlighted the leadership role of President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap in the history of the struggle for national liberation, not only of the Vietnamese people but also of all mankind. He also highly appreciated the central role of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the heroic fighting spirit of the Vietnamese army and people in the resistance war against foreign invaders, which took the lives of many people and devastated the country.
Appreciating the achievements that Vietnam has made after half a century of healing the losses after the war, Mr. Perez Pena said that Vietnam today is a country with a strongly developing economy and is the center of the world. Vietnam has a diversified and open economy, strongly attracting foreign direct investment, maintaining sustainable growth in foreign trade activities. Vietnam is currently the second largest coffee exporter in the world and one of the leading smartphone manufacturers. Vietnamese garments such as clothes and shoes are exported to many countries around the world.
Referring to the anti-war movement supporting the Vietnamese people's struggle against foreign invasion at that time, Mr. Perez Pena expressed that the Bolivian people, especially the youth, along with other Latin American countries, always expressed solidarity with the Vietnamese people's struggle for independence and condemned the military invasion. The student and worker movements participating in the anti-war movement, supporting the just resistance of the Vietnamese people in the 60s and 70s of the 20th century in Bolivia were very large, especially among the guerrilla forces led by Che Guevara.
Regarding the solidarity, friendship and cooperation with Vietnam, Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Bolivia Perez Pena emphasized that in 1987, Bolivia and Vietnam established diplomatic relations and since then, the relationship between the two countries has become increasingly stronger. Bolivia and Vietnam have many historical similarities. He said that the two countries still have a lot of potential to develop trade relations in potential areas such as soybeans, leather, wood products, electronics and sports shoes.
