The owner also "revealed" to Thanh Nien reporter many interesting things when Mai film crew chose it as a filming location.
“40 years of business, this is the first time there are so many customers!”
That is the sharing of Mr. Huynh Quoc Cuong (32 years old), owner of Giai Ky Mi Gia restaurant located on the front of Tran Phu street (District 5, Ho Chi Minh City), after the restaurant suddenly became famous for appearing in a short scene in the movie Mai by artist Tran Thanh.
The owner himself was surprised, not thinking that just being on the show "a little", the restaurant would be flooded with people coming to support.
Just opened, Mr. Cuong's restaurant is already full of customers.
Mr. Cuong and his wife are busy at the counter, working continuously because there are too many customers.
In the movie, Cuong's noodle shop is where the two characters Sau and Mai stop by for a late-night snack. Many viewers of the movie recognized the "familiar shop" and went there, while others stopped by out of curiosity, wanting to enjoy the flavors here, especially the dry rice noodles that appeared in the movie.
One afternoon, when the restaurant had just opened, we visited and were surprised to see 5-6 tables filled with customers in the modest space as well as a large number of customers coming to buy take-out. Many people came without a seat but were willing to wait to enjoy the food here, making the 4 people in the restaurant, all relatives of Mr. Cuong's family, "unable to breathe".
The noodle shop in the movie Mai was so crowded that it had to close 4 hours early.
Mr. Nhat Hoang (24 years old, living in Binh Thanh District) said this was the first time he visited this restaurant. During Tet, Mr. Hoang watched the movie Mai and was really impressed with the style of this Chinese restaurant.
“I surfed the internet and saw so many people sharing the address that I wanted to try it out. I work in District 3, so I stopped by here after work but I didn't expect it to be so crowded. I waited for almost 20 minutes and still couldn't find anything. It was so crowded. Since I had come here, I was willing to wait a little longer, it didn't matter," he said with a smile and quickly enjoyed the "hot" dry rice noodles.
Each meal here costs between 45,000 - 50,000 VND.

The owner said that since the second day of Tet this year, after the movie premiered, the restaurant has been flooded with regular and new customers coming to support. Before that, in the middle of last year, the film crew contacted Mr. Cuong's family to come and film.
Mrs. Huynh Boi Tran (71 years old), mother of Cuong next door, added that this restaurant was opened by her husband and wife nearly 40 years ago, then left to their son to inherit for nearly 10 years now. Among the many supportive customers, Tran Thanh is one of the restaurant's regulars, and is also one of the reasons why the restaurant has the opportunity to appear in this film.
"The film crew arrived around 8pm, it was very crowded! At that time, the restaurant stopped accepting customers so the film crew could film until dawn the next day. Outside, actress Phuong Anh Dao was so beautiful. Surprisingly, many customers who came to eat also recognized that I appeared in the film," Mr. Cuong laughed, recalling.
Closed early due to lack of food
Mr. Cuong said that his restaurant is open from 4pm to 3am the next morning. However, when I visited, I came back at almost 1pm the next day and saw that the restaurant had almost finished cleaning up and stopped accepting customers. Many people who came for a late-night snack at this time were disappointed and left when they received a shake of the head from the restaurant owner: "The restaurant is out of food!"
The restaurant is located at 451 Tran Phu.
The restaurant said that although they had imported 2-3 times more ingredients than usual, by 11:00, the restaurant had sold out. His family did not want to import too much, but only wanted to sell enough, bringing the most dedicated meals to the customers who came to support them.
“I think this is just a short-term effect, so I don't intend to develop the business, but still try to do a good job like the past decades, serving customers well,” Mr. Cuong expressed.
According to research, Mr. Cuong's restaurant is known by many people for its Chinese noodles and wontons. Recently, the rice vermicelli dish has also become more popular than usual. Each meal here ranges from 45,000 - 50,000 VND.
Normally open until 3am, but these past few days the shop has closed early because they ran out of food.
Cuong's father, Mr. Huynh Quoc Giai, and his wife opened this restaurant to make a living and raise their two children to adulthood. Not long ago, he passed away, leaving the noodle shop with his mother, sister, brother and wife running it.
“The experiences with the restaurant have been truly unforgettable during my decades of business. To me, the restaurant is the legacy, the passion of my parents, the food that feeds the whole family. Thank you to the customers who have always supported me over the years," he added.
