Bui Tien Tuan is considered one of the few artists who have made great contributions to the revival and modernization of Vietnamese silk paintings. However, looking back at his creative process, Bui Tien Tuan not only has silk paintings but also oil paintings, do paper, lacquer paintings and recently large-scale acrylic paintings.

In addition to the theme of urban girls, Bui Tien Tuan's paintings also depict the poetic scenery of Hoi An, or the bare reality of the streets, with the spirit of post-expressionism and abstraction. Regardless of the material or medium used to reflect any theme, artist Bui Tien Tuan always shows his fullness, charm and especially maintains his own identity and style.
Painter Duc Hoa believes that Bui Tien Tuan is one of the brightest names in contemporary Vietnamese silk painting art. "The difference and uniqueness is that while most silk painters paint female characters standing still or lying still, quiet and graceful, Tuan paints characters that are very flexible, leaning and flying freely in bold and romantic directions, creating characters according to the author's ideas, both "squeezing" and letting go, both contracting and stretching, both "bloating" and compressing..., into a sharp line or a highlight, not bound by the truth according to the eyes. To me, that is an artistic creation with a unique personal mark", painter Duc Hoa commented.
