15 Vietnamese universities entered the QS Asia rankings in 2024, including 4 schools appearing for the first time.
On November 8, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) announced the 2024 Asian University Rankings with 857 schools. Vietnam has 15 representatives.
Duy Tan University ranked highest – 115th, up 30 places from last year. The top 200 also includes Ton Duc Thang University (ranked 138) and Hanoi National University (ranked 187). Ho Chi Minh City National University ranked 167th last year but dropped to 220th this year.
There are four schools participating for the first time, including Nguyen Tat Thanh University, Ho Chi Minh City Technical Education University, Transport University and Van Lang University. Of these, Nguyen Tat Thanh University is ranked in the 291-300 group, the other three schools are in the 401-450, 651-700, and 701-750 groups, respectively.
The remaining training institutions mainly dropped in rank, such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology from 248th to group 401-450, Hanoi Pedagogical University from group 601-650 to 801+.

QS (UK) is one of the three most prestigious and influential university ranking organizations in the world, along with THE (UK) and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China) rankings.
Of the 857 higher education institutions ranked this time, 149 schools are included for the first time.
The QS ranking is based on 11 indicators. Of which, the opinions of scholars and employers have the highest weight, at 30 and 20% respectively. The rest are the ratio of lecturers/students (10%), the ratio of lecturers with PhD degrees (5%), the number of scientific articles/lecturer (5%), the ratio of citations/scientific articles (10%), the international research network (10%), the ratio of international lecturers (2.5%), the ratio of international students (2.5%).
QS said it used feedback from 2.1 million academics and 617,000 votes from employers worldwide, analyzing more than 141.6 million citations (2017-2022) from 17.6 million scientific articles. In addition, QS analyzed data from schools that applied to participate in the rankings.
China dominates the top 10 of the rankings with six representatives, including Peking University (ranked 1st), University of Hong Kong (2nd), Tsinghua (4th), Zhejiang (6th), Fudan (7th), and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (10th). The remaining four schools are from Singapore and South Korea, namely the National University of Singapore (3rd), Nanyang Technological University (4th), Yonsei University (8th) and Korea University (9th).
In Southeast Asia alone, the University of Malaya (Malaysia) has the highest position - 11th.
