1,183 orphans in difficult circumstances have godmothers

(HNMO) - On the afternoon of June 2, the Hanoi Women's Union organized the "Giving Wings to Children's Dreams" Festival, a meaningful activity for 118 children sponsored by the Association in the city.

The organizers gave gifts to 100 orphans in difficult circumstances.

Speaking at the festival, Chairwoman of the Hanoi Women's Union Le Kim Anh said: With the love and responsibility of grandmothers, mothers, and sisters, the Union at all levels has actively implemented activities to care for, educate, and protect children. At the end of 2022, the city had 5,638 orphans, of which 5,007 were orphans of one parent at risk of falling into special circumstances; 631 were orphans of both parents (615 were living in the community); 16 were orphans due to Covid-19.

Responding to the “Godmother” program launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women’s Union, the City Women’s Union has implemented the “Accompanying Children” program with many meaningful activities; donating computers, school equipment and supplies; connecting to sponsor orphans in especially difficult circumstances.

From 389 children sponsored in 2021, up to now, all levels of the Women's Union, officials and members of the city have sponsored and connected organizations, businesses and individuals to sponsor 1,183 orphans in difficult circumstances, including children orphaned by Covid-19.

“It is impossible to replace the children's parents, but second mothers will be a source of encouragement, support them spiritually, love and share, accompany them on the journey ahead, help them study and practice to become good citizens in the future,” Ms. Le Kim Anh shared.

At the festival, sponsoring units received and gave love to 18 orphans in difficult circumstances. The organizing committee presented gifts to 100 orphans in difficult circumstances and orphans due to Covid-19 from 30 districts, towns and cities in the city. The children also had the opportunity to interact with famous artists, watch circus arts...

Previously, within the framework of the festival, this morning, the godchildren, godmothers and Association officials had a visit to the aquarium at Times City.

1,183 orphans in difficult circumstances were sponsored with a budget of 300,000-1,000,000 VND/month, of which the City Women's Union connected and sponsored 200 orphans in difficult circumstances (with a budget of 500,000-1,000,000 VND/month) for 1 year, 3 years, 5 years and until the age of 18, with a total value of more than 6.9 billion VND. Since the beginning of 2023, the Hanoi Women's Union at all levels has connected and sponsored 156 orphans.
