Lieutenant General Khuat Duy Tien was born on February 27, 1931, into a farming family in Dai Dong commune, Thach That district, Son Tay (now part of Hanoi).

In his life and career, he was considered a battle-hardened general, who held a gun in the resistance wars against France and the US, as well as in the wars to protect the Fatherland on the border.

During his career, Lieutenant General Khuat Duy Tien held many different positions in the Vietnam People's Army. He was the former Principal of Army Officer School 1, former Director of the Military Department of the General Staff, and former Commander of the 3rd Corps.
