Computer and component exports estimated at nearly 41.3 billion USD

On the afternoon of October 5, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Information and Communications held a press conference to provide information on the activities of the Ministry and the information and communications sector in September 2023 and the plan to implement the Ministry's key tasks in the coming time.

Regarding some outstanding results in September 2023, the Ministry of Information and Communications said that the Ministry has advised and submitted to the Government: Issuing a Plan to implement the Law on Electronic Transactions; Reporting to the Prime Minister on the overall organization of the National Digital Transformation Day in 2023 and the draft Message of the Prime Minister on the National Digital Transformation Day in 2023.

The Ministry also issued: Decision No. 1864/QD-BTTTT dated September 28, 2023 on evaluating and approving potential digital platforms to become national digital platforms.

In particular, from September 20-23, 2023, implementing the direction of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Information and Communications successfully hosted the 16th ASEAN Ministers of Information Meeting in Da Nang (AMRI 16) with the theme "Media: From information to knowledge for a Resilient and Adaptive ASEAN" with the largest scale in AMRI: 8 Ministers, 4 Deputy Ministers and Heads of information management agencies of 10 ASEAN countries, 3 dialogue countries (China, Japan, Korea), 1 observer country (Timor Leste)...

The Ministry of Information and Communications also said that in September 2023, the industry's total revenue was estimated at VND367,137 billion, up 6% over the previous month and 17% over the same period last year. The industry's total revenue by the end of September 2023 is estimated at VND2,655,661 billion.

At the same time, the estimated state budget contribution is: 9,295 billion VND, up 3% compared to the previous month and up 8% compared to the same period last year. The total budget contribution of the whole industry up to the end of September 2023 is estimated at 74,097 billion VND.

Regarding the ICT industry, according to the Ministry of Information and Communications, revenue from the hardware and electronics industry in the first 9 months of 2023 is estimated at nearly 2.3 million billion VND (approximately 95.8 billion USD), down 2% over the same period in 2022.

The export value of hardware and electronic products is estimated at nearly 85.4 billion USD, down 5% over the same period in 2022, accounting for about 31% of the country's export value.

Of which, the export of 2 groups of goods "Computers, electronic products and components" and "Phones and components of all kinds" maintained the top 2 groups of goods among 12 groups of goods with high export value of the whole country, but the export output decreased compared to the same period.

According to data from the General Department of Customs, by the end of September 2023, the export value of computers and components is estimated at nearly 41.3 billion USD, down 4.2% over the same period; the export value of phones and phone components is estimated at over 39.5 billion USD, down 8.7% over the same period in 2022.

The number of registered digital technology enterprises continues to increase steadily. According to data from the Ministry of Planning and Investment (Department of Business Registration Management), September 2023 is estimated to reach 73,500 enterprises, an increase of 700 enterprises compared to August 2023, with the ratio of digital technology enterprises/1,000 people estimated at 0.739.

Regarding the Postal sector, in September 2023, postal service revenue is estimated at VND 5,250 billion, up 3% compared to August 2023 and up 15% compared to September 2022; postal output is estimated at 220 million postal items, up 3% compared to August 2023 and up 30% compared to September 2022.

Revenue from the hardware and electronics industry in the first 9 months of 2023 is estimated to reach nearly 2.3 million billion VND.

In the telecommunications sector, as of September 2023, the rate of households using fiber optic cable reached 78.76%, an increase of 8.48% over the same period in 2022. The number of smartphone subscribers reached 100.6 million, an increase of 4.1 million subscribers (4.25%) over the same period in 2022.

The number of mobile broadband subscribers reached 85.6 million subscribers (equivalent to 86.06 subscribers/100 people), an increase of 3.88% over the same period in 2022. Fixed broadband speed was 93.11 Mbps (an increase of 15.9% over the same period in 2022), ranked 46th and higher than the world average of 82.77 Mbps.

Mobile broadband Internet access speed 47.08 Mbps (up 19.52% over the same period in 2022), ranked 49th and higher than the world average of 43.2 Mbps).

Regarding the digital economy and digital society, the proportion of digital economy/GDP in the second quarter of 2023 is estimated at 15.26%, and the proportion of digital economy/GDP in the first 6 months of 2023 is 14.96%.

The total number of new mobile app downloads in August 2023 was 323 million. With this result, Vietnam ranked 9th globally and 2nd in Southeast Asia in terms of the number of new mobile app downloads.

The top Vietnamese applications downloaded to devices as of August 2023 are Zalo social network, VNEID platform and digital payment applications (MB Bank, Viettel Pay, MoMo Wallet, Vietcombank).

In August 2023, there were 7 applications with the number of active accounts reaching over 10 million, including: Zalo, Zing Mp3, VNEID, Bao Moi, Vi MoMo, MBBank and My Viettel. Zalo social network continued to record an increase of nearly 500 thousand active accounts.

Also according to the Ministry of Information and Communications, as of September 22, 2023, 63/63 provinces and cities have established 76,905 Community Digital Technology Teams with 356,914 members participating in Community Digital Technology Teams at commune, village and city levels; 53/63 provinces and cities have completed 100% up to the commune level.

100% of ministries, branches and localities have issued e-government architecture 2.0 (22/22 ministries, branches and 63/63 provinces and cities have built and updated e-government 2.0).

At the same time, 100% of ministries, branches and localities have consolidated and established Steering Committees on digital transformation. 5/22 ministries, branches; 63/63 localities have issued resolutions and programs on digital transformation; 100% of ministries, branches and localities have issued Plans/Projects on digital transformation (22/22 ministries, branches; 63/63 provinces and cities).
