Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association cited statistics from the General Department of Customs showing that in March 2024, fruit and vegetable exports reached 433 million USD, an increase of nearly 4% over the same period last year.
This is the first time that Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports have reached and exceeded 1 billion USD in the first quarter of the year. This shows that the fruit and vegetable industry has many growth prospects in the near future. The important export markets for Vietnamese fruit and vegetables are China, Korea, the US, Thailand, Japan, etc.
According to Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen - General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, the above figure is contributed by off-season durian. Notably, Thailand increased its purchase of durian from Vietnam, helping this market rise to the fourth position in importing Vietnamese fruits and vegetables.
Updated to the end of February, in the Top 10 fruit and vegetable export markets of Vietnam, Thailand grew very high at 125.9% compared to the same period last year, reaching 28.6 million USD, increasing Thailand's market share from 2% to nearly 4%.
In the first two months of the year, fruit and vegetable exports to markets with high quality requirements such as the United States, Japan, etc. grew well. Of which, the export value to the United States reached 39.6 million USD, up 27.7% compared to 2023. Japan reached 27 million USD, up 17.7%.
In addition, fruit and vegetable exports to other markets also increased sharply in the first two months of 2024, such as South Korea reaching 41 million USD, up 52.4% over the same period in 2023; Australia reaching 15.3 million USD, up 36.2%...
For the German market, in the first two months of the year, Vietnam exported 8.9 million USD worth of fruits and vegetables to this market, an increase of 160% over the same period in 2023.
In 2023, the export of vegetables and fruits of our country's agricultural sector is estimated to reach 5.5-5.8 billion USD, the highest level ever.
In 2024, the export of fruits and vegetables, including durian, from Vietnam will grow even more because more growing area codes and packaging facilities can be granted, creating favorable conditions for export. In addition, coconuts are allowed to be officially exported, which will contribute to bringing Vietnamese fruits and vegetables further. It is forecasted that in 2024, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports can reach 6.2-6.5 billion USD.
