Ho Chi Minh City University of Management and Technology has just organized a scientific conference on economics, society and technology 2024.

With the theme: "Convergence of science, technology and life in the digital age", the conference emphasized the need for interdisciplinary systematic innovation in the context of rapid development of digital technology.

The digital era - innovation, artificial intelligence (AI) technology is on the rise, not only improving education and research; but also deeply connecting economic, social and technological fields; creating an interdisciplinary network towards breakthrough, practical and comprehensive solutions.

In particular, STEAM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) helps students develop critical thinking, creativity, and the ability to identify and solve complex problems in the context of globalization.

Sharing about new trends in STEAM education, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hai, Head of the research team at the STEM THRIVE Education Program, University of Missouri (USA) - Director of the STEAM Institute, Ho Chi Minh City University of Management and Technology, said that in fact, interdisciplinary connections are a topic of interest in complex projects of the modern world, especially in the 4th industrial revolution and solving global problems.

Accordingly, STEAM is a new educational method that can meet this practical need of society, providing a comprehensive, fundamental approach, promoting creativity, multidimensional critical thinking and extensive interdisciplinary cooperation.

Analyzing 37 newly selected studies from 2020 - 2024, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hai outlined recent trends in STEAM education in the digital age. Ethical and socio-cultural issues in the context of digital transformation, emphasizing the role of STEAM education in preparing learners with the qualities and abilities to become global citizens but still have their own identity.
