A man has captured the hearts of internet users for making one incredibly cute gesture for his wife every Friday - and he's been doing it for the past 68 years.

Romance is not 'extinct', and one 89-year-old man proves it.

Social media users were left in tears at the sweet gesture this husband does every Friday for his beloved wife, the British newspaper Mirror reported. And he has maintained this tradition for the past 68 years. People couldn’t help but be moved by this wonderful gesture, as they could only dream of a love like this.

Peter, from Liverpool, UK, who posts videos on TikTok under the handle @blue_peter, has been telling people that "true love" exists - and he proves it every Friday by doing the most amazing thing for his wife.

Peter shared a video of himself going to different stores to buy flowers. He wrote on the video: "I have bought flowers for my wife every Friday for the past 68 years."

But Peter does more than that. “I always write her a letter telling her what I like about her during the week.”

Mr. Peter also wrote a card to his wife.

The comments section below the video was flooded with compliments for the man. Many people found the act to be the cutest thing they had ever seen, with some even saying they were moved to tears while watching the short clip.

One commenter said: “My dad did the same thing for my mom. He brought her flowers every week, even when she had dementia and didn't remember them. He still bought flowers every week to put by her urn... he said she was the kind of woman who deserved flowers.”

Peter replied, "Your dad seems like a wonderful man; God bless him."

Another shared: "For those who can't buy flowers, just let the person know you're thinking of them. Small snacks or even a text can make things meaningful."

One woman shared a story about her grandparents, writing: "My grandfather did this for my grandmother. From the day they started 'courting' until the day she passed away, he bought a red rose every week. They were married for over 60 years."

Some people said buying flowers every week was a waste of money, but most were touched by the gesture. One person wrote: "Why is it a waste of money? I think it's beautiful. Why so negative? This man still shows love and care after 68 years. I think you're jealous. We all need a little love like this, and that's what makes a great partner."

Another woman wrote: "All women deserve to be treated like this. Every woman wants to feel appreciated… thank you for doing that. This is what every woman wants! It makes me realize my own worth and losing someone who doesn't make an effort doesn't make me sad."

Benefits of giving flowers

In fact, giving flowers to someone can have many benefits for your relationship and mental health. When we take the time to understand someone’s preferences and give them a bouquet that suits them, we show them genuine care and concern, creating lasting memories and deeper connections.

Flowers can also have a positive effect on a person’s mood. Research shows that this effect can last for several days. Flowers can also reduce a person’s anxiety, worry, and sadness, making them feel less depressed, confused, and agitated. They can create a more optimistic outlook, increasing vitality and joy.

Finally, giving flowers increases feelings of happiness and gratitude. When you give flowers to someone, they tend to appreciate the gesture. This increases oxytocin and improves their mood. This is because when people receive flowers, they are reminded that someone is thinking of them, making them feel valued and loved.
