THAI NGUYEN Phu Luong district determines that developing organic agriculture with a sense of responsibility will help complete the criteria for building new rural areas and improve people's lives.
Recognizing the importance of protecting health, the environment, and the effectiveness of organic farming and livestock farming, Phu Luong district (Thai Nguyen) has integrated organic production into the new rural development program, contributing to restructuring local agriculture. Thereby realizing the goal of reaching the new rural destination in 2024, 1 year earlier than the original plan.
With the potential and value that organic agriculture brings, Phu Luong district has planned concentrated green and organic production areas. Each specialized production area selects key crops to build quality OCOP products.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Huu, Secretary of Phu Luong District Party Committee, said that for the agricultural sector, Phu Luong district especially focuses on developing the key crop of tea by expanding the area, increasing value by improving product quality, producing in an organic direction, associated with promotion and connection to expand the consumption market.
The Resolution of the 24th Phu Luong District Party Congress, term 2020 - 2025, determined to take agriculture as the foundation for economic development. To specify the content of the Resolution, the locality has developed and implemented the Project to enhance the value of tea products and the district's strengths in the period 2021 - 2025, with a vision to 2030.
After 4 years of implementing the Project, the district has achieved many positive results. Up to now, the total tea area of Phu Luong has reached over 4,000 hectares, the output of fresh tea buds has reached about 47,000 tons, the economic value has reached over 1,300 billion VND per year.
By the end of 2023, there were 111 tea products with QR codes to trace their origin, exceeding the plan by 101 products by 2025. In fact, the price of organic products on the market is often higher than that of products produced by conventional methods. The income of people using this production method has also increased accordingly. Thanks to that, it has helped to increase people's income, meeting the criteria on people's income in building new rural areas.
In addition, when doing organic farming, the environment will also be protected. People in the cooperative are also members of the village, protecting both the farming environment and the living environment of the community.
The development of organic agricultural products therefore contributes significantly to improving the quality, efficiency and successful implementation of the National Target Program on New Rural Construction, more effectively exploiting the potential and strengths of each locality, developing quality products according to standards, increasing competitiveness, and meeting market demand in the context of international economic integration.

For example, the raw material area for growing medicinal plants such as stevia in Phu Luong district of DK Natural Products Joint Stock Company currently has an area of 4 hectares, of which 2.1 hectares have met organic standards, the remaining area is being cultivated in an organic direction.
The Company's annual output of dried tablespoons sold on the market reaches nearly 4 tons. The sale of tablespoon extract brings the Company a revenue of about 250 million VND per year. Along with that, it creates jobs for dozens of local workers.
Currently, the Company has 5 packaged dry medicinal products. Of which, 2 products have achieved 4 OCOP stars: Gymnema tea and Gymnema compressed tea.
In the coming time, Phu Luong district will focus on synchronously implementing groups of solutions to promote the development of organic agriculture including tea trees, lychee, large-leafed gymnema sylvestre... Thereby, aiming to bring the local agricultural sector to develop rapidly and sustainably, people's lives are constantly improved, and the appearance of the countryside is increasingly renewed in a civilized and modern direction.
Up to now, Phu Luong district has achieved many remarkable results in new rural construction: 13/13 communes have met new rural standards; 3 communes have met advanced new rural standards (accounting for 23.07%); 2 communes have met model new rural standards (accounting for 15.38%); 2 towns have met civilized urban standards. The district has met 5/6 conditions, 3/9 criteria, 27/36 targets according to the National Criteria Set for New Rural Districts.
