On the afternoon of December 19, a source from the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (investor) said that on December 18 and 19, the unit signed the handover certificate for the two packages CP1a (underground section from Ben Thanh station to City Theater station) and CP2 (elevated section and Depot) of metro project No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien).
“Previously, the Urban Railway Management Board received two bidding packages CP1b and CP3. Thus, 4/4 main bidding packages of the project to build urban railway line No. 1 in Ho Chi Minh City (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien route) have been handed over, ready for official operation on December 22” - informed the Urban Railway Management Board of Ho Chi Minh City.

Ho Chi Minh City Metro Line 1 project has 4 main bidding packages including: CP1a (underground section from Ben Thanh station to City Theater station), CP1b (underground section from City Theater station to Ba Son station) and CP2 (elevated section and Depot) and CP3 (Procurement of electromechanical equipment, locomotives, railways).
Previously, in the CP1a package, there was a problem that the SMC4 consortium (Sumitomo Mitsui - CIENCO4 Group Joint Stock Company) did not reach an agreement in signing the project documents, for example, the lack of signature of the member of the CIENCO4 Group Joint Stock Company consortium in the contract appendices (contract appendix adjusting the contract implementation time, contract appendices related to payment and disbursement, the provision of VAT invoices by the consortium for payment...). This problem was reported to the competent authority by the Urban Railway Management Board and the Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City.
Thus, up to now, the problems in this bidding package have been resolved and the handover work has been completed at the last minute before the official operation of Ho Chi Minh City metro line No. 1.
Metro Line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) is the first metro project in Ho Chi Minh City. The 19.7km long project includes a 2.6km underground section and a 17.1km elevated section with a total investment of more than VND47,000 billion from ODA loans from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and counterpart funds from the budget. According to the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board, the construction volume of the Ho Chi Minh City Metro Line No. 1 project has reached 100%. The Urban Railway Management Board and HURC1 Company are completing the remaining procedures to put Metro Line No. 1 into official operation on December 22.
