The royal assent, a formality, was read out by House Speaker Apat Sukhanand at a ceremony in Bangkok. Dressed in ceremonial attire, Paetongtarn knelt before a portrait of King Vajiralongkorn and delivered a brief speech thanking the king and representatives of the people for approving her as prime minister.

"As the head of the executive branch, I will work with lawmakers with an open mind. I will listen to all opinions to move the country forward with stability," she said.
At 37, Ms. Paetongtarn became Thailand's youngest prime minister, just days after her predecessor Srettha Thavisin was removed from office by the Constitutional Court.
The daughter of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Ms. Paetongtarn easily swept through the vote in the House of Representatives on Friday, winning 319 votes, becoming Thailand's second female prime minister and the third in the Shinawatra family to hold the position, after her father and aunt.
