Spring rice crop "double victory"

The whole province has basically finished harvesting the spring rice crop and the agricultural sector has assessed it as a "double victory" due to both good harvest and good prices.

In the spring crop of 2024, Ms. Mai Thi Hue's family in Thuan Hau village, Xuan Minh commune (Tho Xuan) planted 3 hectares of rice and linked up with Xuan Minh Agricultural Services and Rural Development Cooperative to sell the products. Thanks to proper care and techniques, this year's spring rice crop was a great success for her family, with a yield of 3.5 quintals/sao, and with 3 hectares of rice fields, the family harvested more than 10 tons of rice.

Mrs. Hue excitedly said: This year's spring rice crop not only has high yield but also sells at a good price. Through a contract for production linkage and product consumption, Xuan Minh Agricultural and Rural Development Service Cooperative is purchasing fresh rice at the field at 7,500 VND/kg (1,200 VND/kg higher than last year), and imported dry rice at 12,000 VND/kg (3,500 VND/kg higher than last year). After deducting expenses, this year's spring rice crop, the family earned more than 50 million VND from rice cultivation.

Currently, Tho Xuan district has completed harvesting 7,900 hectares of spring rice, of which 5,600 hectares are hybrid rice, 2,000 hectares are high-quality pure rice, 300 hectares are glutinous rice... Most of the area is planted by people with key rice varieties such as: X21, Thai Xuyen 111, TBR 89, Phuc Thai 168, Thuy Huong 308, VNR 20, VT404, Phu Uu 978; TBR225, TBR279, TBR97, new BC15, Thien Uu 8... so the yield reaches more than 71 quintals/ha, making it one of the localities with the highest rice yield in the province. The rice area is mainly concentrated in the communes of Xuan Sinh, Xuan Hong, Xuan Phong, Tho Loc, Truong Xuan, Xuan Minh, Xuan Lap, Xuan Lai, Phu Xuan and scattered in some other localities. Because rice prices are high, right from the beginning of the season, businesses and cooperatives have organized to buy fresh rice in the fields for farmers.

According to Director of Xuan Lap Commune Agricultural and Rural Development Cooperative Mai Thi Hien, this spring crop the Cooperative is acting as a focal point with enterprises to link production and purchase commercial rice for 200 hectares of rice from people in the commune and neighboring localities of Tho Xuan district. To date, the Cooperative has purchased more than 500 tons of fresh rice and paid farmers right at the field.

After harvesting, people import fresh rice to Xuan Minh Agricultural Services and Rural Development Cooperative (Tho Xuan).

According to reports from localities, by May 31, 2024, the total spring rice harvest area in the province was 105,395 hectares (reaching 92.79% of the plan), with a yield of 67.5 - 68 quintals/ha, an increase of 0.5 - 1 quintal/ha over the same period. According to the assessment of the agricultural sector, in order to produce spring rice with high productivity and output, from the beginning of the crop, the agricultural sector and localities in the province have proactively provided production conditions, arranged reasonable seed structure and crop timing. Production land was cleared, prepared as early as possible, with the area for drying and soaking expanded and water sources regulated scientifically and reasonably; the source of fertilizer materials ensured both quality and quantity, and plant protection was proactive. Along with that, the level of intensive farming of farmers is increasingly high, so the spring rice crop grows and develops well, is free of pests and diseases, and has a high yield. When the rice is ripe, localities have asked cooperatives to focus on mobilizing human resources and rice harvesting machines for farmers to quickly reduce losses caused by storms.

Head of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection Vu Quang Trung said: The 2024 spring crop is considered a successful rice crop, with both a good harvest and good prices. Many localities have achieved high yields such as the districts of Tho Xuan, Yen Dinh, Thieu Hoa, Trieu Son, Hoang Hoa, Hau Loc, Nga Son... In particular, many localities, right from the beginning of the harvest, have had cooperatives act as a bridge connecting with businesses to buy fresh rice in the fields at high prices, so farmers are very excited. Although heavy storms occurred at the end of the season in the whole province, causing some areas of spring rice to break and fall, the agricultural sector and localities promptly instructed farmers to focus on draining water from flooded fields due to heavy rain. At the same time, farmers were instructed to bundle and arrange fallen rice, and properly regulate water in the rice fields that were blooming. Along with that, focus on human resources and machinery to quickly harvest rice with the motto "green at home is better than ripe in the fields", especially in areas that are often flooded, while creating conditions to free up land for autumn-autumn crop production in the best time frame.
