This event has become a New Year tradition for journalists across the country.

Party Central Committee Secretary, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia, and Party Central Committee members: Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang; Permanent Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department Lai Xuan Mon; Minister of Information and Communications, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Manh Hung; Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Le Quoc Minh chaired the conference.

Also attending were Party Central Committee members, former Party Central Committee members; representatives of leaders of Central and Hanoi press agencies, departments, ministries, branches, mass organizations, press management agencies, and many veteran journalists.

Keep the "strong thread" to grow together

In his welcoming speech, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper Le Quoc Minh said: In 2024, the Vietnam Journalists Association will launch an emulation movement towards the milestone of celebrating the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025). In the immediate future, in mid-March 2024, the first National Press Festival will be held in Ho Chi Minh City; at the same time, a large-scale national press forum will be held.

The President of the Vietnam Journalists Association hopes that in 2024, press agencies will stand side by side and work together to protect the copyright of press products; at the same time, he calls on press agencies to unite more to promote mainstream journalism; and take measures to tighten the professional ethics of journalists. This is a matter of survival for the press, and is also an issue that the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Information and Communications, and the Vietnam Journalists Association have paid attention to and promoted in the past, as well as in 2024.

At the Conference, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang expressed his pleasure to attend the press conference in a warm atmosphere. In the coordination work, sharing feelings and sincerity have a greater and stronger value than regulations, so the Deputy Prime Minister hopes that in the coming time, the press agencies will always unite and maintain a "strong bond" to develop together.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, in addition to the advantages, in 2024 the situation of the country, as well as the world, will face many difficulties and challenges. This is also the year of elections in many large countries, with changes in leadership that can lead to changes in the general situation of the world. The difficult world economy is also a common difficulty for our country... Among the common difficulties, there are difficulties for press agencies: low revenue, decreased advertising, while the requirements for tasks are increasingly greater in the face of increasingly fierce competition from social platforms, as well as competition between press agencies.

To develop, we need different ways of thinking and approaches. Press agencies need to directly face difficulties and challenges, not avoid blame; have new ways of thinking to have new, more attractive and competitive products; have better management of journalists and press products. Press agencies, especially large press agencies representing the voice of the Party and the State, must provide standard information, and cannot accept mistakes. In training human resources, we need to focus not only on training to receive degrees and certificates, but also on substance, sometimes just learning from each other's experiences between central and local press agencies, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested.

On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister sent to the leaders of press management agencies, management agencies, press agencies and journalists nationwide his wishes for happiness, peace and energy in the new year.

Create and spread good and humane values in society

Concluding the Conference, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia, on behalf of the Secretariat, highly appreciated and commended the results of press work in 2023 and the information and propaganda work on the occasion of the traditional New Year of Giap Thin 2024 of press agencies.

Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia commented: In the context of many difficulties, with the leadership of the Party, the drastic direction of the Government, the management of activities and supervision of the National Assembly, the spirit of great solidarity, creativity, and persistent efforts of the people, in 2023, our country has achieved important and meaningful achievements in politics, society, national defense, security, and foreign affairs, while maintaining a peaceful and stable environment. In that common success, our country's revolutionary journalists have made positive and noteworthy contributions. The information and propaganda work of the press has made an important contribution to strengthening and creating high unity in thought and action within the entire Party, people, and army - a factor of extremely important significance for the process of deploying and implementing the country's political tasks.

In particular, during the Giap Thin New Year, press agencies have closely followed their functions and tasks, well organized information and propaganda work, promptly and vividly reflected the joyful atmosphere of the Spring Festival of people across the country; thoroughly grasped, implemented, and guided the study of the General Secretary's article on the occasion of the 94th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam; and done a good job of propaganda work to celebrate the 94th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam...

The year 2024 is of great significance in implementing the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and towards the 14th National Party Congress; the year to celebrate many important events of the country, especially the 70th anniversary of the historic victory of Dien Bien Phu; summarizing 40 years of the country's implementation of the Doi Moi process. 2024 is also the year when the entire Party, the entire people, the entire army, and the political system need to be highly determined and make great efforts to prepare well for the implementation of important events and milestones of historical significance of the country in 2025: the 95th anniversary of the Party's founding; the 80th anniversary of the country's founding; the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and national reunification; the year to organize congresses at all levels towards the 14th National Party Congress. For revolutionary journalists, 2024 is also a busy year with activities towards the 100th anniversary of Vietnam's revolutionary press in 2025. The Head of the Central Propaganda Department suggested that the press should focus on promoting the implementation of socio-economic tasks in 2024; urgently develop plans, actively and creatively implement the dissemination of resolutions, conclusions, directives, and policies... of the Central Committee, the National Assembly, and the Government; closely follow the breath of life, from real life to reflect, contribute ideas, create and spread good and humane values in society.

"We need to be highly determined to build a "professional, humane and modern" press in the spirit of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress; actively build and implement a cultural environment in press agencies; need more efforts, determination and courage so that every press agency is a "decent press agency", every journalist is a "decent journalist". If we do that well, I believe that press agencies and journalists will receive the respect of the whole society, thereby creating value, affirming the brand to help compete effectively against increasingly rich but also quite chaotic social media platforms", the Head of the Central Propaganda Department noted.

According to Party Central Committee Secretary Nguyen Trong Nghia, from now until the 14th Party Congress, to important milestones of the country and the nation, there is still a lot of work to be done. The tasks set for journalism are very heavy, requiring high quality and efficiency, both in terms of leadership, direction, management, information deployment, propaganda, etc. However, this is also a condition and opportunity for journalists to demonstrate their role, political responsibility, and creativity to produce quality journalism works with positive social effects.

To overcome difficulties and fulfill their tasks, those working in the press need to have a deeper understanding of the role, position, function and tasks of revolutionary journalism; constantly cultivate and improve political qualities, professional ethics and professional qualifications. The Head of the Central Propaganda Department believes that with its glorious tradition, efforts, determination and aspiration for innovation and creativity, the press will fulfill its role and mission of information and propaganda to the people, the Party and the State.
