On the afternoon of March 27, VNDirect Securities announced that it had restored the system and was reviewing and re-evaluating to ensure absolute safety and security for customers trading at the company.
VNDirect also provides an address for customers to check their balance on the My Account system at: https://myaccount.vndirect.com.vn/bao-cao/bao-cao-tai-san/tong-quan-tai-san and recommends that customers change their password immediately after logging into the system.
This is phase 1 of 4 phases that VNDirect announced the roadmap on its website.
Thus, from the afternoon of March 27, customers can look up their account status and information on VNDirect's My Account.
In phase 2, VNDirect will reopen the money trading system, underlying securities trading and derivatives trading on the basis of communication with the Stock Exchange. In phase 3, other financial products will be put back into operation. In phase 4, VNDirect will reopen all other features.
Immediately after VNDirect's announcement, investors rushed to look up and change their passwords. However, some people encountered difficulties.
One investor said he could not change his password because the system “kept reporting errors.” Meanwhile, another VNDirect customer said the securities company had only opened the system for viewing.
A customer named Duc shared that he was still able to log in to his account and had changed his password. According to this investor, the system may have been slow because there were too many people logging in.
In fact, VNDirect also warned investors about possible slow logins. Specifically, due to the newly restored system and the large number of customers accessing it, errors may occur and customers will have to wait for the page to reload.
Thus, at this time, account lookup at VNDirect is possible.
However, investors are interested in when phase 2 will be implemented. That is an important phase, when VNDirect reopens the money trading system, underlying securities trading and derivatives trading on the basis of communication with the stock exchange.
Mr. Nguyen Hung, an experienced investor, commented that phase 2 is the most important and is expected to take the most time. “VNDirect will have to check and control very carefully. This securities company even has to hire a third party to ensure that there is nothing unusual and that hackers will not attack again after the system is restored,” Mr. Hung shared.
According to this investor, not only VNDirect but also related parties must ensure that hackers will not return and use VNDirect as a back door to attack other securities companies and stock exchanges.
Sharing on VTV on March 26, VNDirect General Director Nguyen Vu Long said the company needs more time, although this is a common but relatively complex form of attack. VNDirect Securities is reviewing and ensuring the system is truly stable when re-operating.
VNDirect may not be able to trade again this week. But most investors expressed their hope that the company would review carefully and thoroughly, not allowing hackers to install virtual software running in the background.
They are not too worried as the first three sessions of the week were quite peaceful, without panic or sell-offs. The market even had some strong increases.
Currently, investors tend to bet on the possibility of the stock market going up in the context of low bank interest rates, abundant market liquidity and the possibility that authorities will soon allow large securities companies to guarantee foreign investors to buy first and pay later. This is an important indicator to upgrade Vietnam's stock market from frontier to emerging.
In the trading session on March 27, the securities group was positive, in which SSI Securities and HCM made a strong breakthrough. Investors predicted that if VNDirect resumes trading soon, the securities group could increase even more strongly.
Regarding the VNDirect incident, some people believe that misfortune can happen to any individual or business. The important thing is how to handle it. Everyone is waiting for VNDirect's solutions after the incident is resolved.
According to General Director Nguyen Vu Long, when the problem is resolved, VNDirect will have a policy to ensure customer benefits and overcome the consequences of days when transactions are not possible.
