Vietnam and UAE won the World's Leading Heritage Destination 2023 award at the World Travel Awards final ceremony.
Vietnam beat out other nominees including Armenia, Brazil, Egypt, Greece, Japan and Saudi Arabia to win the prestigious award, the World Travel Awards reported on December 2. Previously, Vietnam was also honored in the category of World's Leading Heritage Destination in 2022, 2020 and 2019. In 2021, Armenia won the first prize.

Five destinations including Hanoi, Moc Chau, Tam Dao, Ha Nam, and Phu Quoc also won awards in important categories.
Hanoi won the World's Leading Short-Term Vacation Destination for the third consecutive time, surpassing other strong candidates such as Athens, Dubai, Hong Kong, Las Vegas, New York, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo. Tam Dao Vinh Phuc received the World's Leading Tourist Town award for the second time. Moc Chau Son La received the World's Leading Local Natural Destination award. Ha Nam Province received the World's Leading Local Cultural Destination award for the first time. Phu Quoc was named the World's Leading Natural Island.

Several tourism businesses in Vietnam were also honored at the World Travel Awards 2023 final ceremony, such as Vietravel receiving the World's Leading Tour Operator award for the 7th consecutive time, The Empyrean Cam Ranh Beach Resort in Khanh Hoa receiving the World's Leading Leisure Resort award. Sun World Fansipan Legend Lao Cai tourist area received two awards for the World's Leading Cultural Tourist Area and the World's Leading Natural Landscape Tourist Area.
The most important award at this year's grand finale, World's Leading Destination, was awarded to the Maldives, marking the fourth consecutive time the island nation has been honored in the category.

The event aims to honor, reward and recognize excellence in the tourism sector. Categories include hotels, resorts, airlines, travel agencies, destinations, and parks. In addition to the WTA Asia-Pacific regional award ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City, awards ceremonies for other regions continue to take place in the island nation of Saint Lucia (Caribbean Sea), Batumi (Georgia) and Dubai (UAE).
