Find the positive on social media

Việt NamViệt Nam02/04/2025

Social networks (SNS) such as Facebook, TikTok, YouTube... have long become an indispensable part of modern life for many people. However, besides the positive values, this "virtual" space also has many negative aspects, creating not small "real" consequences. When negative information is rampant on SNS, many users cannot help but feel tired and bored when surfing the net.

Overwhelmed with drama

“Drama” is a familiar English word that social media users use to talk about hot stories in a negative way. Last March, Vietnamese social media was flooded with attention-grabbing “dramas”. From the case of more than 16 billion VND donated to charity for the mother of a boy with cancer, to the controversy surrounding a type of candy advertised as a substitute for daily vegetables, to private scandals involving celebrities…, all of these have turned the cyberspace into an “arena” of endless debate. Many social media users are not only caught up in the controversies but also consider updating hot stories a daily habit. They are afraid of becoming “old-fashioned” if they do not quickly grasp hot news, leading to a state of addiction to gossip, commenting, debating and even harsh judgment on issues of unclear truth.

The overload of negative information also makes many people feel tired and stressed. Some people share that they have started to stay away from social networks or actively filter out provocative and controversial content to protect their mental health. When negative stories continuously appear, many people feel like they have lost faith in the good values of life, and are easily influenced by the crowd effect, unconsciously participating in useless debates.

In Bac Lieu, social networks also erupted in debate about a tourist posting a video with quite negative comments about the Bac Lieu Prince's House Complex. Regarding this incident, besides the opposition of many people, there were many comments defending because as a tourist, you should have the right to comment and share your personal feelings so that the tourist destination can change and develop further. Or before that, Bac Lieu suddenly became "famous" on social networks due to information from a rare wheel theft case.

Spread positive information

Despite its negative impacts, social media is still a powerful tool to spread good values if used properly. Many individuals and organizations have turned this virtual space into a place to share useful information, connect communities and spread positive things.

In Bac Lieu, many volunteer groups using social networks to call for help for many difficult circumstances have received strong responses from the community. One example is Ms. Phuong Oanh - a music teacher at Bac Lieu High School for the Gifted. Not only is she an enthusiastic teacher, close to her students, Ms. Oanh is also a Facebooker who regularly posts positive information and posts calling for charitable donations for people with serious illnesses who need help. Meanwhile, the Thien Y Charity group, consisting of many young people from Gen Z and Gen Y, spreads kindness through images of cooking for the lonely elderly, orphans, and people with disabilities at the Provincial Social Protection Center and the Provincial General Hospital... As each minute and each second passes, thousands of useful information, spreading a beautiful lifestyle, kindness in life, have brought bright colors to the online space.

Social networks are still a rich information environment from both domestic and foreign sources, so instead of letting "dramas" dominate emotions, social network users should practice the habit of filtering valuable information, contributing to spreading good things in the community. Especially, with a locality rich in tourism and cultural potential like Bac Lieu, social networks can become a useful promotional tool if exploited properly. Realistic articles and images of beautiful landscapes, people, and kind stories will help create a healthier online environment, promoting sustainable development for the locality. Let's build a healthy online space, where each post not only provides information but also transmits positive energy!
