According to information from the National Innovation Center (NIC), Ministry of Planning and Investment, Vietnam and NVIDIA cooperate to establish the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research and Development Center, called VRDC (Vietnam Research and Development Center), along with the AI Data Center in Vietnam.

This cooperation is the result of an agreement signed between the Government of Vietnam and NVIDIA during the second visit to Vietnam by Mr. Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA. The agreement was signed by Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung - representing the Government of Vietnam and Mr. Jay Puri, Executive Vice President of Global Operations of NVIDIA.

VRDC and AI Data Center will be the platform for NVIDIA and domestic partners to promote research, development and deployment of advanced AI technologies. These Centers will not only play a key role in supporting AI research and application development initiatives, promoting innovation and startups, but also creating job opportunities for talented people in Vietnam.

Vietnam is considered one of the countries with potential in developing and applying AI thanks to its young, dynamic, and technology-savvy human resources. The Vietnamese government has also identified AI as one of the priority areas in its national development strategy.

Assessing this cooperation agreement, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung affirmed that this is not only a strategic step and a new development direction for NVIDIA, but also an important milestone for Vietnam to become the leading AI research and development center in Asia, creating breakthroughs for key technology industries, while opening up career opportunities for domestic talent.

The new infrastructure provided through the VRDC and the AI Data Center will support Vietnam’s national AI strategy, laying the foundation for AI talent incubation and development using NVIDIA’s cutting-edge AI technologies. This will help the country accelerate AI research, development and application in key industries such as healthcare, education, transportation and finance.

Recently, the Prime Minister assigned the Minister of Planning and Investment to be the Head of the Working Group to implement cooperation with NVIDIA Corporation to support NVIDIA in shifting the production chain and developing artificial intelligence technology in Vietnam. In October 2024, on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of its establishment, NIC and NVIDIA signed a Memorandum of Strategic Cooperation on developing a nationwide artificial intelligence ecosystem in Vietnam, focusing on training to improve skills, support research and start-ups in the field of AI.

"This is also an important transitional moment for Vietnam to accelerate digital transformation, entering a new era - the era of national growth - as the message of General Secretary To Lam, to realize the aspiration of building a prosperous and powerful Vietnam," Minister Nguyen Chi Dung emphasized.

Vietnam is ready to become a country with the capacity to research and apply AI, with high-quality, dynamic human resources and the ability to quickly absorb technology. The environment is increasingly favorable for innovation and startups, especially in emerging technology fields with active support from domestic and foreign investors. The Vietnamese Government has been implementing policies to support technology research and development, while focusing on building digital infrastructure, creating favorable conditions for the development of AI. In particular, the establishment of the National Innovation Center with many breakthrough policies is considered a bright spot in Vietnam's innovation ecosystem in recent years. Along with that, the Prime Minister issued the Program "Developing human resources for the semiconductor industry to 2030, with a vision to 2050" with the goal of training 50,000 engineers to serve the semiconductor industry by 2030, including at least 5,000 human resources with deep expertise in artificial intelligence.

Through this strategic cooperation, Vietnam will cooperate with NVIDIA to promote the strong development of AI technology in Vietnam according to international standards, while creating a bright future for the innovation ecosystem and high-tech industry in Southeast Asia.
