After 3 weeks of internship at Nui Beo Coal Joint Stock Company - Vinacomin, students from Vietnam Coal and Minerals College quickly integrated into the working environment thanks to the active support from the Company's Youth Union and the school. Student Vu Minh Hai shared: "Thanks to the dedicated guidance of the Deputy Manager and experienced team leaders, I have learned a lot of important practical knowledge, helping to improve my professional skills. Lessons from real work not only help me develop myself but also create a solid foundation to improve my skills and income in the future."
With 30 years of experience working at the Mechanical - Electrical Department, Exploitation Site 2, Mr. Vu Ngoc Thuong is always dedicated to guiding the interns. Mr. Thuong said: “When assigned to mentor and support the students, I not only provide technical guidance, but also help them get familiar with the production equipment and understand the operating process. This helps them quickly adapt to the work and real environment, creating a premise for future career development.”
Nui Beo Coal Joint Stock Company is the youngest underground mining unit in the coal industry, officially switching from open-pit mining to underground production since 2017. With the goal of achieving a design capacity of 2 million tons of coal/year in 2026, the Company must synchronously deploy many solutions to ensure stable human resources in both quantity and quality.
One of the important solutions is to promote the role of the Youth Union in supporting and mentoring new workers. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Toan, Deputy Secretary of the Company's Youth Union, shared: Implementing Resolution No. 229-NQ/DTQN, the Company's Youth Union always focuses on listening to the thoughts and aspirations of new workers and interns. From there, appropriate guidance and mentoring programs are implemented at each branch. Thanks to that, workers' skills are improved and their income is significantly improved. The Company supports free accommodation and shuttle buses, helping workers feel secure in their long-term commitment. The number of interns returning to work at the Company is increasing, contributing to supplementing high-quality human resources, ensuring production progress and sustainable development of the unit. From 2023 to present, the Company's Youth Union has mentored nearly 800 new workers.
Quang Ninh Coal Union directed 100% of the Youth Unions of the Vietnam Coal and Mineral College and the grassroots unions of the underground coal production sector to synchronously deploy solutions to support and help new workers and interns. This work is carried out systematically through Youth Union meetings, meetings, receiving and announcing mentoring decisions, field trips, and volunteer activities to help young workers quickly integrate into the working environment. Thanks to the above solutions, the rate of young workers quitting their jobs after the first 3 months of production internship has decreased significantly. In 2024, out of a total of 1,251 newly recruited trainees, only 96 people quit their jobs (7.67%). This result shows the effectiveness of the implementation of Resolution No. 229-NQ/DTQN.
Mr. Vu Van Thinh, Vice Principal of Vietnam Coal and Minerals College, affirmed: When students move from a learning environment to a production environment, it is inevitable that they will feel bewildered. The Youth Union has proactively sent staff to hand over, receive, accompany, share and provide timely support. Thanks to that, students have more motivation to stick with their work. Effective implementation of Resolution No. 229-NQ/DTQN has helped reduce the rate of job resignation by 2% compared to before, contributing significantly to ensuring TKV's human resources.
In the coming time, Quang Ninh Coal Union will continue to research and evaluate practices to advise and propose the issuance of a joint resolution on strengthening the work of mentoring, supporting and assisting young new workers and interns in the period of 2025-2027. The resolution will focus on practical solutions such as improving the quality of practical guidance, expanding vocational skills training programs, improving living and working conditions for young workers. At the same time, Quang Ninh Coal Union will promote coordination between schools and businesses to create an effective learning and training environment, helping young people quickly adapt and develop sustainably in the coal industry.
