Hai Duong workers work far away but still 'take on' two roles

Despite the difficulties and hardships, many Hai Duong workers and laborers working in other provinces still try to fulfill both their roles of being good at work and taking care of their family.

Hard-working

Early mornings on weekdays, when the houses and roads of Hai Duong are still covered in mist, many workers are rushing to get on the road. They leave their homes, cross bridges, and vast rice fields to go to big cities, industrial zones, construction sites or factories in neighboring provinces and cities. Every day is a long journey, with early departures and late returns, hasty sleeps on buses, but their hearts are always filled with hope and responsibility.

Hai Duong workers accept to travel far to seek opportunities, not minding the hard work, as long as they can provide for their families. On late buses, some people fall asleep from exhaustion, while others take the opportunity to call home, ask about their children’s studies, and remind them to eat well for dinner. They carry the burden of life on their shoulders, but in their hearts there is always a home waiting for them to return to.

After graduating from university, Mr. Nguyen Van Luc from Gia Loc town applied to work at Nam Mau Coal Company in Uong Bi City (Quang Ninh). Instead of staying in a rented house, he went to work by shuttle bus to save costs. Although he had to travel far and the work was hard, Mr. Luc was never discouraged. Every month, he tried to work hard and increase productivity to improve his income. Not only that, he also actively participated in union activities organized by the unit. Thanks to his diligence and hard work, he was recognized by the company as an exemplary worker for many years.

"I love the miner's uniform so I am determined to stick with the job. Although it is hard, the company is very concerned about the welfare and income of the workers. Because I do not want to be away from my family, I travel about 150 km every day between Hai Duong - Quang Ninh and vice versa. Taking advantage of the time sitting on the bus, I rest and plan for the new working day," said Mr. Luc.

VinFast Production and Trading Joint Stock Company (Dinh Vu Economic Zone, Hai Phong City) arranges shuttle buses to pick up workers from Hai Duong to work.

At 4 a.m. on a weekday, Nguyen Minh Phuong (26 years old) from Dan An commune (Tu Ky) hurriedly went to the bus stop to go to work. There were about 40 workers on the bus, 35 of whom were from Hai Duong, working at VinFast Production and Trading Joint Stock Company (Dinh Vu Economic Zone, Hai Phong). The nearly 40 km journey seemed shorter thanks to the personal stories of the workers. Everyone was happy, excited, and ready to start a new shift.

According to Mr. Phuong, VinFast has a good working environment and high welfare regime, so many workers from Hai Duong come to work. Each shift will last from 8 to 12 hours. Because Hai Phong is a region 1, the company's salary is quite high, ranging from 11 to 20 million VND/month. In addition, workers also receive allowances and bonuses on holidays and Tet... For those who live far away, the company arranges a shuttle bus to pick them up. At VinFast, Mr. Phuong also receives vocational training from the company, improving his expertise and professionalism to meet the requirements of the job.

"Here I learned a lot of experience from leaders and colleagues. Thanks to that, my skills and expertise have improved significantly," said Mr. Phuong.

Good at housework

Mr. Nguyen Van Dung and his wife in Ung Hoe commune (Ninh Giang) work different shifts to have time to take care of their family.

Like many workers in the province, Nguyen Thi Huong and her husband in Ung Hoe commune (Ninh Giang) always wanted to have a stable job with high income. After much deliberation, the couple decided to apply for jobs at LG Display Vietnam Co., Ltd. in Trang Due Industrial Park (Hai Phong). Because she has a small child, she asked to work in different shifts with her husband so that she could have time to manage the housework and take care of the children.

Every day, when Ms. Huong comes home from work, Mr. Nguyen Van Dung gets on the company bus to go to work. The couple only get to see each other for a short while, and they discuss many things over the phone. Although life is a bit chaotic, in return, Ms. Huong and her husband have stable jobs with a decent income.

"We accept working different shifts to have time to take care of our children. Instead of going out on weekends, my family often gathers at home to rest and restore our energy. Because we arrange our time reasonably, we are always in harmony and happy. Our well-behaved children are a great source of encouragement to help us always complete our work well," said Ms. Huong.

Not only in the private sector, but also in the public sector, there are many changes due to the restructuring and merger of units. Many officials of the State Bank of Vietnam, Hai Duong branch (old) are now working at the new headquarters in Hai Phong. In the new working environment, everyone still tries to complete the assigned tasks well. At the end of the day, they continue to return home to manage and take care of household chores.

"After nearly a month of traveling between Hai Duong and Hai Phong, we have gotten used to our current jobs. The working environment has changed a bit, but we still have time for our families. Because this is the spiritual support for us to be confident on the new journey," said an officer of the State Bank of Vietnam, Region 6.

Many Hai Duong workers are like hard-working bees, silently contributing to the development of agencies, units, businesses... No matter where they work, they always turn to their small home in Hai Duong, where their relatives, family, and hometown are. And that love has, is, and will help them become stronger and more resilient, to continue their endless journeys, for the future, for the people they love.
