Ronaldo and Messi could face each other at the Club World Cup. |
Ronaldo's contract with Al Nassr expires on June 30, right in the middle of the Club World Cup. However, new transfer regulations could open up the opportunity for the Portuguese superstar to compete in the tournament.
Specifically, according to the new regulations, teams participating in the tournament will be allowed to sign contracts and register new players between June 1 and 10. This means that if an agreement is reached with Ronaldo or Al Nassr, any club can register CR7 to play in the tournament. Both sides can sign a short-term contract within just one month to compete in the Club World Cup.
The tournament features some of the world’s top clubs, including Manchester City, Chelsea, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan. Real Madrid, where Ronaldo spent nine years, will also be in attendance. Signing Ronaldo on a short-term basis is not a bad idea if any club wants to reduce the playing time of their key players.

Lionel Messi's Inter Miami will also be competing as the host nation. If Ronaldo can join a club in the tournament, fans will get to see the two football legends face off once again.
With the Club World Cup taking place every four years, this could be Ronaldo's last chance to play in a major international tournament before he retires. Now 40, CR7 still has ambitions to play in the 2026 World Cup with Portugal.
For clubs not participating in this summer's Club World Cup, the transfer window will open on June 16 and close on September 1.
