Ly Duc started 18 matches in all competitions for HAGL this season, including 17 matches playing the full 90 minutes, before being injured in the match against The Cong Viettel on the evening of March 30 in the quarter-finals of the 2024/25 National Cup. Photo: Facebook Pham Ly Duc.

After being taken for an MRI scan on the morning of March 31 in Hanoi, Pham Ly Duc was diagnosed by doctors with a minor injury to his left knee, but not a complete ligament rupture.

Currently, Ly Duc still cannot walk and has to use crutches or a wheelchair. However, this player only has to rest for about a month before he can return to training and competing. This is good news for HAGL, U23 and the Vietnam national team, because Duc is a promising name.

Earlier, on the evening of March 30, Ly Duc suffered pain after a bad landing due to the bad pitch. This player covered his face and was about to cry, unable to walk on his own and had to be carried off the pitch and moved. HAGL head coach Le Quang Trai gave a bad prognosis for his student's knee and affirmed that the bad grass at My Dinh Stadium was the main cause of the accident.

Pham Ly Duc, born in 2003, is an emerging central defender of HAGL, U23 and Vietnam national team. He was recently promoted from the youth team by the mountain town team before the 2024/25 season, scoring 2 goals and making 1 assist after 16 starting matches in the entire V.League.

That performance convinced coach Kim Sang-sik and brought Ly Duc straight to the Vietnam national team. Although he was only on the bench for 2 matches against Cambodia and Laos, Duc is still a very promising name and has the ability to compete for a starting position in the U22 Vietnam team in the two most important arenas this year: the 2026 U23 Asian qualifiers and the 33rd SEA Games taking place at the end of the year.
