Frimpong could leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer. |
The Times reports that Liverpool are preparing for a major squad overhaul this summer, with the right-back position being a priority for the Kop board, as Alexander-Arnold is likely to move to Real Madrid.
His departure will leave a void at right-back, which coach Arne Slot has targeted and promoted compatriot Frimpong to fill. The player's price in the summer of 2025 will not be as expensive as last year, after Bayer Leverkusen's poor 2024/25 season.
Liverpool could pay less than £40m for the Dutch winger. However, as well as Frimpong, Rayo Vallecano defender Andrei Ratiu is another target for Liverpool. The Romanian defender has impressed in La Liga this season.
Barcelona have long been linked with Ratiu, but with Jules Kounde still playing at right-back at the club, it is unlikely that the Catalans will spend big on the defender. Rayo Vallecano are willing to sell Andrei Ratiu for around £25m, a figure that would not trouble Liverpool.
However, Liverpool face stiff competition from Manchester City in both Ratiu and Frimpong deals. Pep Guardiola is also keen to rebuild Manchester City's squad this summer and is looking for a replacement for Kyle Walker.
This could help Rayo or Leverkusen push up the transfer fee. The race to sign Ratiu or Frimpong promises to heat up the summer transfer market in 2025, when many European giants want to upgrade the right wing position.
