Hoi An communal house - the main venue for the Ky Yen festival - has been bustling with visitors over the past two days. The festival is held by Tien Chau commune on the occasion of the Hung Kings' death anniversary, creating conditions for locals and tourists to visit and enjoy the unique culture.
The most special part of the festival is the procession of the royal decree from the custodian, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tuan, to the communal house of Hoi An. The royal decree is restored, contained in a gilded wooden box, placed on the Long Dinh palanquin carried by four men.
The decree reads: "The decree is granted to Hoi An commune, Tien Giang canton, Ha Dong district, Quang Nam province to worship Bao An Quang Hau Chanh Truc Huu Thien Don Ngung Duc Bao Trung Hung Bon Canh Thanh Hoang god, who has been granted the decree. In the first year of Duy Tan's enthronement, I respectfully obey the imperial edict to show my gratitude for the good performance of the rituals and ranks. Now I specially approve the worship as before according to the solemn ceremonies of the country. Respectfully obey. On August 11, the third year of Duy Tan (1909), I stamp the seal of the imperial edict", and was invited to be brought to Hoi An village temple.
The main ceremony was held at Hoi An communal house after the royal decree was brought to the communal house. After the main ceremony in the communal house, representatives of the clans and people were allowed to enter and worship in the communal house.
The Ky Yen festival is even more exciting with the festival held for 3 days (from April 16 to 18). Many booths displaying products and performing traditional crafts are visited and shopped by many locals and tourists.
