In some mountainous districts of Thanh Hoa, many models of applying science and technology (S&T) in production have been implemented, bringing high economic efficiency, contributing to improving people's lives.
In 2020, Mr. Luong Van Tuong's family in Duc Thinh village, Kien Tho commune (Ngoc Lac) converted 4 hectares of low-economic agricultural land to grow oranges and some other fruit trees. During the production process, Mr. Tuong applied the knowledge he had been trained in to the process of caring for and protecting the plants. With a scientific care process, the family's orange garden is full of fruit every year, and the yield has continuously increased over the years.
According to Mr. Tuong, in order for orange trees to grow well and produce high yields, growers must apply strict technical processes. The most important factor for the trees to grow as desired is to closely monitor weather developments and choose the right time to take care of them. Limit the use of chemical fertilizers and regularly apply organic fertilizers to increase nutrients for the trees, along with installing an automatic irrigation system to reduce costs and labor... Currently, with 4 hectares of orange trees, Mr. Tuong's family harvests over 10 tons of fruit, deducting costs and earning a profit of about 300 million VND/year.
Ms. Phan Thi Ha, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ngoc Lac district, said: Transferring scientific and technological advances to promote socio-economic development, especially in the field of agriculture, Ngoc Lac district has issued Decision No. 2179/QD-UBND, dated June 4, 2019 on land accumulation and concentration for large-scale, high-tech agricultural development by 2025, with a vision to 2030. Up to now, the whole district has nearly 3,000 hectares of agricultural land accumulated, applying high technology to production, thereby forming many models with high economic efficiency. Specifically, the model of growing asparagus in the direction of high technology in Ngoc Lien and Minh Son communes; the model of growing Kim Hoang Hau melon in the direction of high technology and the model of growing medicinal plants in Kien Tho commune; Ho Guom Song Am High-Tech Agriculture Company Limited applies science and technology to produce over 800 hectares of seedless lychee, red-fleshed dragon fruit, pineapple, avocado...
Ngoc Lac district also directed communes and towns to receive and apply technology to guide people in farming; transfer science - technology, new technology, new varieties into production... thereby contributing to improving agricultural productivity, creating jobs, increasing income for local people.
Ngoc Lac district is just one of many localities in the province applying science and technology to agricultural production, bringing high economic efficiency. Typically, Nhu Thanh district has implemented a model of growing various types of melons in Phu Nhuan commune; a model of growing sweet tangerines in Yen Lac commune; a model of raising chickens in Xuan Du commune, by Anh Phat Clean Agricultural Products Company. Ba Thuoc district has implemented a model of producing seeds and growing medicinal herbs. Thach Thanh district has implemented a model of producing, processing and consuming edible mushrooms and medicinal mushrooms in an industrial direction; a model of applying technical advances in raising livestock and poultry in 6 extremely difficult communes. Xuan Lien Nature Reserve with a model of raising porcupines, propagating forestry trees, planting intensive forests and developing the economy in a comprehensive ecological direction to serve the development and stabilization of the socio-economic buffer zone...
The Resolution of the 19th Provincial Party Congress, term 2020-2025, also affirmed that research, application and transfer of science and technology; participation in the fourth industrial revolution to serve rapid and sustainable socio-economic development is one of the three breakthroughs. In order to put the resolution into practice, all levels, sectors and localities have concretized it into many programs and plans to promote the application of science, technology and engineering in production, especially in the agricultural sector.
One of the pioneers in applying science and technology to the agricultural sector is Thanh Hoa Provincial Youth Union, which has successfully implemented the project "Application of science and technology advances to build a model of intensive cultivation of CS1 orange variety according to VietGAP standards in Nhu Xuan district". Or the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture is researching and testing some quinoa varieties (imported in arid, nutrient-poor lands); a pilot production model of commercial hybrid waxy corn variety VNUA69... and is currently implementing the project "Sustainable development of agriculture, rural economy and farmers associated with national digital transformation, urbanization and adaptation to climate change...
It is known that in the period of 2016-2024, Thanh Hoa's science and technology intellectuals have carried out about 400 science and technology tasks. Among them, there are many valuable topics and projects, contributing to agricultural and rural development, improving community capacity, eliminating hunger, reducing poverty and promoting economic restructuring, making an important contribution to the implementation of the province's sustainable socio-economic development program.
