The destroyed aircraft was estimated to be worth $50 million and belonged to the 43rd Independent Naval Aviation Regiment of the Russian Aerospace Forces, based at Saky airfield in Crimea.
According to HUR, the Russian military lost contact with the crew on the morning of September 11. Immediately afterwards, Russia launched a search and rescue operation using An-26 aircraft and Mi-8 and Ka-27 helicopters.
"The Russian military informed the command about a characteristic jet fuel trail in the sea, 70 km northwest of Cape Tarkhankut, and quickly discovered the wreckage of the destroyed Su-30SM aircraft," HUR said.

Russia has not yet responded to the information. Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry announced on September 11 that its forces had prevented Ukraine's attempt to take control of the Krym-2 drilling rig in the Black Sea.
Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk said that as of mid-August, Russia was using only five military airports in Crimea, two of which were attacked by the Ukrainian army and were operating only "at a minimal level".
