Hanoi: The Russian language class of the Foreign Language High School recruited 15 students and received 319 applications, so the competition ratio was 1/21.3 - the highest among the seven specialized classes.

On May 19, the Foreign Language High School announced that it received 3,842 applications for the 10th grade entrance exam this year, about 100 fewer than last year.

The English class received the most applications - 2,088, overwhelming the other classes. This is also nearly 80 more applications than last year. However, with a target of 215 for the specialized program, the English class has a competition ratio of 1/9.7, meaning that for every 10 students who take the exam, one will be accepted.

The Russian class only recruited 15 students, while 319 students registered, so the highest competition ratio was 1/21.3, up from 1/7.8 in 2022. Next was the Korean class with a competition ratio of 1/10.2, Japanese and French both at 1/9.2. The two classes with the lowest competition ratios were German and Chinese with competition ratios of 1/7.9 and 1/6.8, respectively.

This year, the Foreign Language High School will recruit 400 specialized students, with the entrance exam taking place on the morning of June 3. Candidates must take three aptitude tests, including Foreign Language, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Literature and Social Sciences. The exam structure remains unchanged from last year.

In addition, the school recruits 100 non-specialized students (considering candidates taking the entrance exam in English).

The admission score is the sum of the three test scores on a 10-point scale, with Foreign Language multiplied by a factor of two. The Foreign Language Specialized High School will admit students from high to low until the quota is full, from the specialized program with scholarships to the specialized program and the non-specialized program. The benchmark score for grade 10 at the Foreign Language Specialized High School will be announced before June 30.

Last year, the school entrance exam attracted nearly 4,000 candidates. The benchmark score ranged from 24 to 32.35, the highest being the specialized program with scholarships, exam block D3 (exam in French), of the specialized French class.

Established in 1969, Foreign Language High School is a public school, affiliated with the University of Foreign Languages, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Each year, the school enrolls about 500 students in specialized classes in English, Russian, French, Chinese, German, Japanese, and Korean.

Since 2008, in addition to specialized subjects, students have been able to choose to study a second foreign language. In addition to the languages similar to specialized classes, the school also offers Spanish and Italian.
