The Ministry of Construction has just issued a document responding to the petition of voters in Thai Binh province regarding investment in the Nam Dinh - Thai Binh - Hai Phong railway line.
Previously, voters in the province proposed studying the construction of this railway line to connect with the North-South high-speed railway, facilitating socio-economic development and in line with the planning orientation of Thai Binh province's economic zone.

Responding to this proposal, the Ministry of Construction said that according to the Railway Network Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, the Nam Dinh - Thai Binh - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh coastal railway has a length of about 101 km, a gauge of 1,435 mm, with an investment roadmap after 2030.
Currently, this area has two main modes of transport: road and waterway. Goods are mainly transported by road, inland waterway and coastal. The Nam Dinh - Thai Binh - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh expressway is being invested in, expected to meet passenger transport needs until 2045.
On the other hand, according to the forecast in the railway network planning, by 2050, the demand for passenger transport by rail will reach about 1.5-3.5 million passengers/year, and about 1.5-2.5 million tons of goods/year. Therefore, the Ministry of Construction said that investment in the coastal railway will be considered when the demand for transport increases.
While waiting for implementation, the Government is focusing on directing the construction of the Ninh Binh - Nam Dinh - Thai Binh - Hai Phong expressway to enhance regional connectivity.
The Ministry of Construction requested Thai Binh province to direct relevant units to coordinate with investors and contractors to soon complete this expressway, while maximizing the potential of the existing transport system, especially waterway transport combined with coastal shipping and the road network.
