As Secretary of the Central Military Commission, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong devoted much affection and attention to the Vietnam People's Army, including the Army's youth; wishing to build a model of military youth with beautiful aspirations, high responsibility, truly representing the mettle, intelligence and qualities of Vietnamese youth in the Ho Chi Minh era.

The honor of meeting General Secretary and Secretary of the Central Military Commission Nguyen Phu Trong three times left Colonel Tran Viet Nang, member of the Central Youth Union Standing Committee and Head of the Military Youth Department, with deep impressions and emotions.
In 2012, Colonel Tran Viet Nang - then Major, Assistant to the Military Youth Committee - met General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong for the first time. The next two times were in 2017 and 2022, when he was holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Deputy Head of the Military Youth Committee; then Colonel, Head of the Military Youth Committee. These were also the times to report on the achievements of the Army's youth to General Secretary, Secretary of the Central Military Commission Nguyen Phu Trong on the occasion of the organization of the Army Youth Union Congress.
Colonel Tran Viet Nang shared that every time he met General Secretary and Secretary of the Central Military Commission Nguyen Phu Trong, many emotions welled up in him, but throughout, he felt a sense of closeness, simplicity, sincerity, and special concern for young people in general and young people in the Army in particular.
The General Secretary always encourages, motivates, and also assigns tasks to the youth of the Army to promote their core, pioneering, and pioneering roles in youth movements, organize well the revolutionary and pioneering emulation movements, and successfully complete all political tasks of the Army; at the same time, strive to train cadres, union members, and youth in practice. The General Secretary hopes that the young soldiers will always strive to successfully carry out the tasks of the Army, especially in difficult and arduous places, in accordance with the teachings of President Ho Chi Minh: "Wherever there is a need, there are youth; wherever there is difficulty, there are youth."
A profound memory for Colonel Tran Viet Nang was the time when an elite delegation of Army youth came to report on their achievements to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the Party Central Committee Office on the afternoon of October 11, 2022, before the official opening session of the 10th Congress of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the Army.
"That meeting took place in a very friendly and warm atmosphere. Although at that time the General Secretary was old and his health was declining due to his busy work, the General Secretary still came to shake hands with each delegate. After listening to the delegates' reports, the General Secretary praised the achievements of the young soldiers and kindly asked about the soldiers working at the border and islands...", the Head of the Military Youth Department recalled.
According to Colonel Tran Viet Nang, at that meeting, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong praised the achievements of the Army youth in recent years, contributing together with the army and people nationwide to implement the Resolutions of the 12th and 13th National Party Congresses; affirmed the core role and hoped that the Army youth, regardless of conditions and circumstances, would always be absolutely loyal to the Party, the Fatherland, and the people, upholding the will to fight and win. At the same time, the General Secretary placed his trust in the youth of the entire army, who would always uphold the glorious tradition of the heroic Vietnam People's Army; cultivate virtue, train talent, be proactive and creative, worthy of the title "Uncle Ho's soldiers", worthy of the trust and expectations of the Party, the State, the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense and the people of the whole country.
“During the honorable times of meeting General Secretary and Secretary of the Central Military Commission Nguyen Phu Trong, I and the delegates representing the youth of the entire army were all advised and instructed on many things, in which the General Secretary emphasized: One of the core and continuous tasks of union members and youth is to study and the youth of the Army must always be the core, shock force, and the pioneer in protecting the Party's ideological foundation,” said Colonel Nang.
The historical journey of the Army's youth is closely linked to the process of building, fighting and growing up of the country and the heroic Vietnam People's Army. Imbued with the instructions of General Secretary and Secretary of the Central Military Commission Nguyen Phu Trong during his lifetime, along with the special affection and care for the Army's youth, promoting the tradition of the Vietnam People's Army, Colonel Tran Viet Nang affirmed that the Army's youth will always be absolutely loyal to the Party, the Fatherland and the people; the youth of the entire army will continue to be the vanguard, taking the lead in youth movements, closely following the goals and tasks of the revolution and the tasks of the Army to build and successfully organize the implementation of the tasks of the Youth Union and youth movements, building union members and Army youth who truly represent the mettle, intelligence and qualities of Vietnamese youth in the Ho Chi Minh era.
