Gam Temple was built during the Tran Dynasty to worship the gods who had contributed to protecting the country and the people such as Cao Son, Cao Cac, Sat Hai Dai Vuong Hoang Ta Thon, Uy Minh Vuong Ly Nhat Quang, Tu Vi Thanh Nuong... Gam Temple is a religious architectural work belonging to the Truc Lam Zen sect built by the people to worship Buddha Shakyamuni and Bodhisattvas.
Gam Temple and Pagoda are located in the same area, an ancient and sacred relic complex with beautiful and unique architecture and sophisticated carvings, demonstrating the ingenuity, sophistication, and aspiration and respect of the ancients for the merits of the gods, Buddha and ancestors. Many ancient sacrificial objects and artifacts are also preserved here, especially the unique system of statues.
The Gam temple - pagoda relic cluster located in the Gam Ru spiritual eco-tourism complex was recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as a Provincial Historical and Cultural Relic in 2007 and was honored to receive the UNESCO Patronage Certificate from the Vietnam Federation of UNESCO Associations in 2018.
Over the years, with the attention of all levels, sectors and the generosity of visitors from near and far, the Gam temple - pagoda relic complex has been restored and built spaciously, meeting the spiritual and religious cultural needs of the people and quite convenient in organizing festival activities.
This year's Gam Temple - Pagoda Festival takes place over 4 days, from March 21 to March 24 (ie February 12 to 15 of the lunar calendar) with many special activities: Opening ceremony, proclamation ceremony, procession of gods, great sacrifice ceremony, thanksgiving ceremony, peace praying ceremony, opening ceremony, folk games (male and female stick pushing, blindfolded pot smashing, blindfolded duck catching...), volleyball competition, traditional martial arts, mass art performances, opera performances, drum beating competition, preaching, lighting candles and lanterns...
The procession of the god from Gam temple to Truc Lam Yen Thanh Zen Monastery with the participation of thousands of tourists is an important highlight of the festival.
During the festival, the Organizing Committee mobilized hundreds of volunteers to serve, welcome and guide visitors; prepared tens of thousands of vegetarian meals and drinks for visitors from far away to attend the festival.
Gam Temple Festival is held annually to preserve, conserve and promote the value of the nation's heritage. It is an opportunity to express people's respect and gratitude for the merits of the gods, Buddha and ancestors, while promoting the image of local tourism.
