Special position in the defense of the country
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Duc Nhue, former Deputy Director of the Institute of History, in charge of the Institute of History: In the process of building and defending the country of the nation since the dawn of history, Tuyen Quang has always been considered a screen, a "fence" protecting the delta region. Tuyen Quang is the place that witnessed the indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people in the struggle against the domination of the feudalists of the North. This land, with its rugged terrain and rugged mountains, has become one of the important bases, where uprisings broke out strongly, contributing to the work of preserving the country's borders and cultural identity. During the feudal dynasties, Tuyen Quang was an important "frontier" area, where kings applied the "nhu vien" policy to bind local chieftains.
Tourists visit the Kim Quan safety relic complex, where President Ho Chi Minh, the Party Central Office and other Party agencies, and the Government Office lived and worked.
Entering the 20th century, Tuyen Quang continued to play an important role as a base in the pre-uprising revolutionary movement. In 1937, the first Party organization was established here. By the end of 1941, many National Salvation Army units had been formed and developed strongly, especially the National Salvation Army Platoon III - the first armed force of the province, which affirmed the special strategic position of Tuyen Quang in the struggle for independence.
In particular, Tuyen Quang became one of the cradles of the Vietnamese revolutionary movement. Under the leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, Tuyen Quang quickly became one of the important revolutionary command centers, where the country's typical revolutionary leaders gathered, and where important events took place that contributed to the success of the General Uprising in the whole country. Tan Trao was truly the capital of the Liberated Zone, the central base for commanding the revolution in the whole country during the August Revolution in 1945.
Resistance Capital
After the success of the August Revolution, on September 2, 1945, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was born. On December 19, 1946, President Ho Chi Minh issued a call for national resistance. The strategic area of Tuyen Quang as well as the Viet Bac base continued to fulfill its historical mission - to be the ATK, the Resistance Capital.
It is not by chance that Tuyen Quang was chosen by history as the Capital of Resistance. From its favorable geographical location, solid revolutionary base, to the people wholeheartedly following the Party, this place has all the necessary elements to become the "cradle" of the sacred resistance. The revolutionary people's hearts combined with the rugged and mobile terrain of mountains and rivers have made Tuyen Quang one of the absolutely reliable safe zones of the revolution in the whole country.
Tuyen Quang was the venue for the Second National Congress of the Party (1951) - the first Congress held in the country, under the difficult conditions of the resistance war. At this Congress, our Party openly took the name of the Vietnam Workers' Party, made many strategic decisions, paving the way for victory in the resistance war against French colonialism.
During the arduous years of resistance, Tuyen Quang truly became the “Capital of Resistance”. Here, at historical sites such as Tan Trao, Kim Binh, Uncle Ho’s Hang hut..., important decisions of the Party and State were made, leading the entire nation to wage a long-term resistance war and gain final victory. The image of President Ho Chi Minh working simply in a small hut, discussing national affairs with his comrades has become a symbol of solidarity, determination and strong belief in the victory of the resistance war.
According to Colonel Ha Dinh Khiem, Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Command: Existing and developing amidst the enemy's siege, and always being attacked and destroyed by the enemy, the Central Safe Zone in Tuyen Quang has always been carefully and strictly protected. With regular education, propaganda, and reminders, the people of all ethnic groups in Tuyen Quang consider the task of preventing spies and keeping secrets to protect the Central agency as their responsibility and duty. The task of protecting the Central headquarters in Tuyen Quang cannot be separated from the task of organizing combat to repel the enemy's military attacks, expand and consolidate the Viet Bac base area. A typical example is the Viet Bac - Autumn-Winter 1947 campaign that completely bankrupted the enemy's "quick fight, quick win" strategy, firmly protected the Viet Bac base area - the center of the resistance, preserved the main force, and ensured the safety of the Central agencies of the Party and the Government in the Safe Zone. Tuyen Quang is not only the workplace of the leadership agencies but also a solid rear base, providing manpower and resources for the frontline. Tuyen Quang people did not hesitate to face difficulties and hardships, contributing all resources to serve the resistance war. The frontline laborers, the rice fields, and the corn fields full of grain contributed to nurturing and supporting our army to fight and win.
The Resistance Capital is not only a historical title, but also a spiritual brand, a belief passed down through many generations. That pride exists not only in history books, in old symbols, but also in every step of change of Tuyen Quang homeland today.
Preserving and promoting the value of the Resistance Capital is to preserve the spirit of Vietnam, to foster the will of independence and self-reliance for the present and the future. Tuyen Quang will forever be a vivid testament to the truth: when the People rise up, no force can stop the flow of revolution.
Proud of its glorious past and its great contributions to the cause of national liberation, the Party Committee, government and people of Tuyen Quang province today are striving to build a rich, beautiful and civilized province, continuing to promote its revolutionary tradition, worthy of the proud title of “Capital of Resistance”. Tuyen Quang will forever be a red address in the history of building and defending the country of the Vietnamese people.
