TPO - Among hundreds of universities nationwide announcing the admission scores for the first round of regular university admissions in 2024, Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture has attracted attention when its admission score increased dramatically by 10 points.
Specifically, in the admission method using the results of the 2024 high school graduation exam, the benchmark scores for 14 majors of the school range from 22 to 27.85 points. Of which, three majors have 27 points or more, the highest being the Cultural Communication major of the Cultural Studies major with 27.85 points. In the method of considering academic transcript scores, the benchmark scores range from 22.03 to 27.5 points.
This score compared to 2023 is a sudden increase because last year, the school's standard score for considering high school graduation exam scores was only from 15 to 24 points, and considering transcripts was also only from 15 to 24.5 points.
This year, the major with the highest increase in admission score is Museum Studies with 8.5 points in the high school graduation exam and 10 points in the transcript review method. Following is the Vietnamese Ethnic Culture major with an increase of 7 points in the high school graduation exam and an increase of 11 points in the transcript review method.... The major with the smallest increase in admission score at this school is 3 points, the remaining majors increased by 4-6 points.
What does the school say?
Speaking with PV Tien Phong, Master Nguyen Thanh Tung - Deputy Head of Training Department, Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture explained the reasons for the sudden increase in the 2024 benchmark score:
Firstly, the number of admission requests has increased sharply. Specifically, in 2023, with a target of 1,000 students, Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture has 5,000 admission requests. However, this year, with the same target, there are nearly 26,000 admission requests, more than 4 times higher than in 2023, so the increase in admission scores is understandable.

Second, the school's majors mainly consider admission based on the combination of blocks C and D, while the score range of these two combinations this year is higher than last year, so the admission score is also higher.
Third, in recent years, the Politburo and the Party Central Committee have advocated cultural revival, promoting the social movement of learning and lifelong learning. The school has also promoted communication, coordinated with localities to organize many activities and events, so that the cultural sector has been more widely spread, so more candidates are interested.
For the above reasons, according to Mr. Tung, the sudden increase in the school's admission score this year is not a surprise to the school. However, the school regrets that many students with high scores still failed. "In the past few days, many students have called and emailed the school to inquire about the reason for the high admission score as well as expressed their desire to have more opportunities for additional consideration, but unfortunately, the school's enrollment quota has been met," Mr. Tung shared.
