The 27th anniversary of Vietnam Day for Persons with Disabilities (April 18, 1998 - April 18, 2025) is an important occasion for the whole country to come together to support people with special circumstances in society, honor their will to overcome difficulties and their contributions; at the same time, raise awareness of the rights and needs of people with disabilities in today's society.

After 27 years, Vietnam has achieved many remarkable achievements in protecting the rights and supporting people with disabilities such as: Issuing and perfecting the legal system on people with disabilities, especially the Law on People with Disabilities in 2010; developing an inclusiveeducation system for children with disabilities; actively supporting and creating job and start-up opportunities for people with disabilities; having many policies to improve access to infrastructure, transportation and information for people with disabilities; orienting the development of policies to protect the rights and support people with disabilities to maximize the development space for people with disabilities.

In the future, Vietnam continues to aim to build a barrier-free society, where people with disabilities can maximize their potential and participate equally in all areas of social life. Priorities in the goal of building a barrier-free society include: Increasing investment in assistive technology and information technology for people with disabilities; improving the quality of health and rehabilitation services; expanding educational and vocational training opportunities; and building an inclusive working environment.

Lam Dong Province Association for the Support of Poor Patients, Disabled People and Orphans grants capital to support livelihoods of disabled people in difficult circumstances to develop their economy and stabilize their lives.

According to statistics, Vietnam currently has over 7 million people with disabilities, accounting for 7.06% of the population aged 2 and over, of which nearly 29% are severely and extremely severely disabled, and is one of the countries with a fairly high rate of disabled people in the Asia-Pacific region and in the world.

Vietnam pays great attention to the work of people with disabilities, creating the best conditions to help people with disabilities integrate equally into the community. Currently, the social security system is constantly expanding its coverage and improving the quality of policies for people with disabilities. Over 1.6 million people with severe disabilities receive monthly social benefits, 96% of people with disabilities have health insurance cards, central, provincial and district general hospitals all have rehabilitation departments; children with disabilities are supported to study in integrated educational institutions; children who are not capable of integrated learning are supported to study in specialized educational institutions.

The entire workforce of people with disabilities (nearly 4 million people) has been supported with vocational training, job creation, livelihoods or loans with preferential interest rates to find their own jobs. They also receive attention and incentives when participating in traffic, entering entertainment areas, cultural works, historical relics with free or reduced tickets...

That concern has provided the best support for people with disabilities to integrate into life, creating equality in society. That is why the lives of people with disabilities in Vietnam are improving day by day, and the rights of people with disabilities are gradually being guaranteed.

In the coming time, Vietnam will continue to strengthen international cooperation, learn from the experiences of countries in the region and around the world, to achieve the goals of inclusion and integration for people with disabilities; increase assistance in healthcare, education, vocational training, employment, access to public works, transportation, information technology and communications for people with disabilities.
